Only in that he was probably on about 30k a week when he signed professional terms at Southampton. Where exactly was the need to pay him 3-4 x that much straight away? Its hardly as if he'd turn down 60k a week for example to play for a club like United. The only logical explanation is it was the only way of getting him to sign over his boyhood club.

He's using United as a stepping stone to get to a top 4 team Can't believe people are still listening to what Mourinho has to say though. United killing football by giving him huge wages, but Mourinho starting the ridiculous inflated transfer fees 10 years ago and out spending anyone on fees and wages was fine All just a load of bollocks to put extra pressure on the kid and LVG as he still sees them as a big threat.
If he turns out to be ****e and not progress as expected (If I'm completely honest I'd put him in the 10-15mil category, as I haven't seen anything that warrants the transfer fee) then Utd are stuck with a player on 100-130k a week that no-one will buy as they wont match his wages. The whole transfer is a massive risk.
How often have you seen him play? Enough to even put him in the 10-15 million category or did you pluck that figure out of the air? Chances are your knowledge of the player's ability and potential is close to bugger all. Did you nod knowingly and supportively when Brenda signed Lallana for a similar fee, a player who up until a couple of years ago hadn't even managed to make it into the PL?
