It's a lot easier to criticise people who are no longer here. I understand that it's hard to face facts when there's a cancer within the club you love.
He left in protest at the fact that the owner wanted more control of the club. Be it finances, or the boardroom or whatever - he left because of a disagreement. That is all we know. The club certainly aren't immune to criticism by me and I've given them my fair share. Fact is, the club was built around Cortese, one man. When he left, the house of cards fell down, or started to. I don't think he intentionally made it so.
As I said I blame Cortese, Pochettino and the board. I don't get why people are so far up Cortese's arse they can't see he has made mistakes and could have made more.
You can say he might have made mistakes, but only in the eyes of Katharina, who knows nothing about football and is a lesser businessperson. It's feasible that she wanted to get rid of him because she thought he was spending badly, but you don't know if she was right about that. Name one mistake on the part of Cortese that is based on more than pure speculation.
Well that whole press photography thing that resulted in the Sun calling us "South Coast club" for a while was pretty awful. He wasn't perfect but I still maintain he can't have been THAT bad or Katharina wouldn't have tried to keep him (assuming she did).
I used the word "pure" for a reason. Sometimes it's a guess with no basis. Sometimes there's a lot of supporting evidence. My speculation has the latter.
He refused to share power. That is not proper business governance and creates a system too dependent on a single figure. It meant that eventually things would fall apart. Say he'd fallen ill? Say he fell out of love with the game? There was no non-Cortese contingency. He wouLd not allow it. Also, this kind of system allows his own idiosyncrasies to run unchecked. For instance, the ugly kit, falling out with our suppliers, the overspend on the training ground (including fussy details like gold embroidered seats), etc. He was a beneficent dictator - perhaps the ultimate form of government - but all systems eventually collapse and greed always fills a vacuum.
Does anyone know whether we're actually anywhere near close to bringing in replacements? Haven't seen any links or anything in the last few days.
We have no clue what is going on and I would like to keep a open mind until proved otherwise. How do we know Cortese didn't **** up the wages and promised more then we could afford? how do we know this isn't why we are selling off our players? It could be also Kat wanting to sell like you think but we don't know that either. Until something is proven can you not see it from all angles? you can't just dismiss something because it pants the person you respect in a bad light. Something bad Cortese did? The whole press banning crap, the whole not give a **** about some sponsers etc etc.
I'm not dismissing it at all. I'm saying there's: a) little to no evidence, and b) innocent until proven guilty. The default position until you can show some decent evidence that he ****ed up is that he didn't **** up. It's a matter of opinion as to whether that's good or bad. I personally have no problems with pissing off the press.
Like the ones we signed last week...or didn't. Being on here is like picking a scab, you know you should stop but can't. I hang on because I am afraid I will miss good news, but there never is any. Think I'll stick to cricket and the Commonwealth Games.
That'd be unbelievable, and nip the "asset strip" fears in the bud. Kat can leave us in an okay place if we get to spend this transfer revenue on this kind of quality.
