And just like Vasquez, he doesn't score many in Spain. Pozuelo had comparable stats. I can't see this guy getting goals for us, I have become a bit pessimistic regarding signings from the Spanish league.

I thought the players under discussion were defensive mid fielders not goal scorers or have I misread the posts.

The Nigerian is not a defensive midfielder, he is a central midfielder and you expect them to bang in more than two goals in a league like Spain's where outside of the Top 3 the quality is akin to the Championship.

Edit: is he Nigerian?

West Ham to land Jenkinson

Sky Sports understands West Ham are poised to win the race to sign Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on loan.

"Arsenal are willing to loan out Jenkinson following the recent arrivals of Mathieu Debuchy and Chambers meant the England international's first-team chances limited this season.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sees Jenkinson as part of Arsenal's long-term future, but is happy for him to go out on loan to get regular first-team football under his belt.

There has been no shortage of takers for Jenkinson with West Ham, Hull City, Swansea City and Sunderland all thought to have enquired about the 22-year-old.

However, West Ham are in pole position to land the former Charlton man after holding talks with the player earlier on Monday.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is thought to be an admirer of Jenkinson and sees him as a valuable addition to his defensive options next season.

Jenkinson is happy to go out on loan to play regularly next season as he looks to win his place back in the England squad and the move to Upton Park is expected to be sealed within the next 24 hours."

I guess Jenkinson would prefer to stay in London if he is guaranteed football

Yeah, would make sense.
His previous club was Charlton Athletic.
You'd imagine as long as Arsene wants him to remain he'd be happy to go on loan to any London club.
If Wenger had wanted rid we would have stood a chance.

Swansea City and Everton target move for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy

By Sam Rourke ⋅ July 29, 2014

"Swansea City and Everton are targeting a move for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, according to FLW sources.
The 24-year-old has previously attracted interest from Arsenal

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has impressed during his time at the Berkshire club, and has subsequently attracted interest from a number of top-flight clubs.

Arsenal were among a host of clubs linked with the England U21 international last season, however Swansea and Everton are now monitoring the situation of the Guildford born shot-stopper.

Swansea manager Garry Monk is keen to replace Michel Vorm who left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur last week, and Monk see’s McCarthy as a viable option for the long-term.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is keen to add back up to Tim Howard, and also see’s McCarthy has a long term solution at Goodison Park.

McCarthy has been at Reading since 2007 and has amassed 70 appearances for the Championship club, however he has spent most of his time out on loan.

The 24-year-old has had spells at Woking, Cambridge, Team Bath, Aldershot, Yeovil, Brentford, Leeds and Ipswich over the last few seasons."

I doubt the above article is true (as he will cost a few mill no doubt) but I wish that it were.

Tremmel is in the last year of his contract and I think it will be his last year as well.

Fabianski has a history of injuries and sketchy form.

I'd be much more comfortable going with Fabianski as no.1 if we had someone like McCarthy waiting in the wings on a long term contract....much more comfortable.

Swansea make official bid for Kyle Naughton

by Dan Kilpatrick - July 29, 2014

"Rejoice! Swansea have made an ‘official bid’ for Kyle Naughton, according to the Mail.

I really hope this move happens.

Before you start accusing me of hating on one of our players, I don’t hate Naughton. He’s a trier and he doesn’t appear to whinge or dive or bite people or do anything dickish, and I like all those qualities in a player.

I just think he’s a pedestrian footballer, who epitomises average and shouldn’t be at Spurs.

The Mail doesn’t say much about Swansea’s offer but the Mirror have previously claimed our asking price is around £5m, which would be a good fee for the defender who joined along with Kyle Walker in summer 2009.

If Naughton departed it would leave us short of cover for Walker at right back, however, so it’s unsurprising to find links to Micah Richards and Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Lopes, with the latter looking like a realistic option.

Swansea are a good club, who play the right way, so this sounds like it could be a move to suit all parties.

At the end of last season, Naughton admitted that he may have to leave the Lane in search of regular first team footie, and it looks as though his chance is here. Please take it, Kyle!"

I hope not and especially at that price. From what I have heard he is worsethan what we have got i.e Tiendalli. 5mill sems a lot for someone of this quality especially as we only sold Ben for 10

What concerns me more is that Spurs look like tying up a deal for Rodriguez this morning which leaves Liverpool the only taker for Bony. I know Monk has come out saying it would take an astronomical offer to sell him but Liverpool have the cash to splash so to speak. I am hoping HJ will clarify this morning on the radio. On another note didnt ML say those exact words about Michu at the end of his first season.

I agree actually.
I was for Naughton being chucked in with the Davies deal.
I would still be for him joining for £1m or so (Home-grown, experienced at the top level, cover for a potential problem position)....
....but if we're talking £5m ish I would be disappointed.
After all we swapped Ben Davies for a player worth £8m.

Spurs don't even want Naughton, as they didn't want Siggy. Don't want to be done over by them again (....and yes I rate Siggy, before anyone jumps in, I've wanted him back ever since things looked like going sour at Spurs....my position is about getting good value).

Not impressed at all with Naughton and even less impressed at £5M

As above it would have made sense to include him in the Ben deal at a favourable price but a £5m standalone price tag <doh>

We are at the stage in the development of the club when we should be improving the quality of the squad not just making up numbers. I don't think Naughton would improve the quality.

Didn't the write up in the link I posted say that he'd play defensive midfield against stronger opposition and switch to playmaker against weaker opposition?
Sounds a bit like Leon to me.
Sounds a bit like Leon physically as well. Short, tireless, good game intelligence and good passer...sounds more tenacious in the tackle however.

I have no idea whether he is good enough but if our scouts have identified him as a possibility I can see why.
Would welcome him here myself...seems to have potential, with the right coaching.
