The problems caused by the private ownership of a "public" football club. The million dollar questions are how long will Assem live and is Ehab interested on building on his dad's legacy. Assem could have done a Blackpool and a Burnley and pocketed the Premier League money but he didn't. He's continued to spend this season. How long will it last, who knows? I presume you've met him, do you think he's an honest man? My view from the outside is, he is. I get the impression that he wants more days like Wembley and he's prepared to put his cash up to get them.
Saints have one of the best academies in the country, they could do what West Ham did in 1966 and contribute to the England team in a very significant way at the next major tournaments. Our academy is quite s**t really, hardly any of our academy players break into the first team like Shaw, Chambers, Ward-Prowse and Lallana did. Our only decent academy player was Cairney and we sold him for next to nowt. Mind you, what the **** has Man City produced from their academy recently?
I think TOM's point is perfectly valid when considered without a literal comparison with where Southampton' s players have emerged from. Whether home grown or bought in a player's value will normally rise if he plays a role in a successful team, so yes, a successful season could easily see a fire sale of top-end assets - that doesn't mean it will happen and I don't believe he has said it would. Anybody who doesn't see the Southampton sell- out as anything other than hugely concerning is seeing something I am not. The team is being raped of it's heart and soul; it has to be a sales preparation.
Where would our players go if we finished 8th though? There would only be a handful of teams that would be a considerable enough step up where they would still get regular football... many of our lads came from bigger clubs because they weren't getting games. They'll continue to get game time here and they realise that.
Its not. He said he wants a successful team and to get the money to do that we have to become Hull Tigers. He owns Hull City Tigers Ltd but he's only the custodian of Hull City Association Football Club. I have seen nothing, other than a few references to Ruscador to suggest Assem Allam is anything but a hard, but honest, businessman.
'Will we finish up like Southampton'? Owners of a very tidy stadium, superb Academy, scouting system, probably one of the best in the country, money in the bank, solid support, established Premiership club, silverware in the trophy cabinet, fabulous traditional club with a proud heritage which is preserved and admired, endless conveyor belt of young players coming through the ranks. Yeah, I hope we do.
"Football should be like the air, it should be free' i will make it £10 and £5" ? "I would never change the club logo" ? "I will walk away in 24 hours, people who know me,will tell you, i never go back on my word" ??? " Iv'e bought the club as a gift to the people" ?....
That's a bit rose tinted. My family are all Southampton supporters. Yesterday there was a Test Match played in the Rose Bowl, the first one ever, the back page of the local papers headline " What's going on Les?" Questions being asked about the summers business, seven of the clubs players out, one more may follow and only two in, youth team coaches gone. A new owner (inherited), a new chairman, executive director, manager and in the coming season a new first team. The reason for the exodus, lays in the clubs past. It started before Shearer and Keegan, when the club adopted two policies. Stay in the top league and keep the wages as low as you can. This strict wage policy is why even when the club has a great season on the pitch, no wage increases are put on the table. The bank manager who ran the club last year was happy to give himself and his family a big pat in the wallet, but reluctant to give the players anymore money than he was obliged to. So as contracts get close to the end, players look to the money other clubs offer and they are off. If Southampton had kept its academy players and built its squad, it would be a top six club, but it never has and it never will. I would rather have our history than Southamptons. The supporters of Southampton need answers, they have every reason to be worried.
I heard Liverpool have bought so many Southampton players, they're running out to "When the saints go marching in".
Always thought the worst thing that the allams could have done is come in and started selling out better players and replacing them with inferior on the cheap players Its not happened yet hence right now I am pleased he is still here . I will deffo change my opinion though IF he tries to change the name with the fa again . Its been a Huge negative for the supporters especially as I have never ever met one supporter who prefers HULL TIGERS to HULL CITY . It looks to me as if the owner of Southampton is grabbing as much cash as possible before selling the club . I wouldn't swap our owner with Southampton's
The bookmakers have taken unprecedented action and slashed the relegation odds for Southampton. News that Rodriguez and Schneiderlin are next out of the door to Spurs.
We're still a long way from where Southampton were last year. The progression needed now is further from the relegation zone to the lower part of mid-table. The team will need to gel with the players coming in and the squad needs competition for places (even if someone here said it would frighten some players).
OT but what has him being a 'CL manager' got to do with it? Loads of ****e managers have managed in the Champions League. David Moyes was a Champions League manager last season.
