Don't think that would be his first choice, but beginning to suspect that there has to be a reason why we can't sign anyone. Do you think Les is being hung out to dry with non-football people thinking you can run a club on the cheap (like Rupert did...though at least he had the excuse that he wasn't rolling in cash).
Welcome aboard Westie! Good first post too, can't argue with any if that. The very nature of the Prem means that clubs playing in the Champions League will always have the best chance of getting back there the following season. But don't despair, we may get there yet!
One thing that is really starting to annoy me is everyone saying how this is all because of the top clubs monopoly that is the PL. Now I agree with this 100% (and always have done). Yet if anyone on here dared to suggest that during the Cortese era they were shot down for 'having no ambition' or other comments like 'were not here to make numbers up, we can break the top 4' or even 'we shouldn't accept mediocrity, what sort of fan are you'. This is the exact reason I said last year I would of rather finished 16th and won the League Cup than finish 6th with nothing. I got hammered for that opinion at the time - 'thats not progression' or 'i dont think nicola would be happy with that'. Now I wonder how many people have changed their mind on that now...
It's all about creating a pathway to the 1st team and frankly Shaw & Chambers were holding our young players back
I think Reed is his own man in some respect, but I do feel he's been given the go ahead to bring in as much as he can from KL,his statements do seem a tad strange to me,but hey I'm no business man,and that's how the club is run. Any incomings seem to take an awful long time, and yes I know they like to do their business quietly but the whole situation is only going to get worse if Morgan & Jay go in the next day or so. What does make me laugh Les said we didn't have to sell and any monies coming in from sales will be put straight back into the first team. Can you see Saints spending 100 mill + in this window....don't make me laugh. Think LR is going to be on a sticky wicket, and will Ron put up with the situation, I'm sure he wasn't sold this picture when he was interviewed.( Of which that dragged on)
I have seen that it's only £12m but how much is it up front? If we can get someone in for £6m who is just as good, it's good business but not all of our signings have worked.

If you think the plan of Les is to purposefully rid the first team of it's top talents and field a team of youth, you're badly mistaken. Hold your horses because the signings are on their way.
Welcome to the board. However, I must say that I'm sick of reading stuff like this. Being **** 5 years ago is not a valid reason to accept our club being torn apart now.
I bloody hope your right Connor but right now I won't believe it until I see it. Les said in his interview some time ago that we have our targets but why is it taking so long? Transfers out are quick enough....
Cheers chilco, To me, the biggest question is where do we as fans want the club to go ? CL is pretty much impossible without some deluded Oligarch or sheikh willing to gamble the odd billion, I agree with ford that a decent cup run would be far more beneficial to both fans and the club itself. Also, it's a bit of a shame that the club doesn't seem to realise the unique advantage saints have built up over the past few seasons, we were regarded by most other teams fans, as being the great club for developing English talent, be it via the academy or by buying promising english youngsters. I fear with the 100 million we have sloshing around the panic buys will be foreign, and we may lose that unique status. I'd prefer to see us aim for consistent cup performances, and be known as " the English club" ( not for any xenophobic reasons, just as a niche label to make me proud of the club I love )
Virgil van Dijk. Although Celtic want to hold until they know they'll be playing UCL football, which would be August 6th I believe, because they need the additional money what with the lack of Hearts, Hibs and Rangers this season. Same reasoning with Forster. But Saints are really driving the deals now because we can't wait much long. I think we will bag van Dijk in the next week and wait on Forster, as there's no need for him right this moment because Boruc is here, but he should link up before the end of the window. I was told that it is Saints understanding that Forster will be keen to link up with us, due to the utter lack of competition in the SPL and with a desire to get his shot at the Premier League. Van Dijk is keen on the move, especially so due to Koeman and we've been discussing personal terms for a couple of days with the relevant representatives. We don't yet have an agreement on price with Celtic but it shouldn't be too far off. There's one other player we are currently talking personal terms with, but they wouldn't divulge the name to me at this moment.
No I don't think that, what I do think is Reed was instructed to get as much money in, and try to play as many youth as conceivably possible, that may be 1,2,5,6 dunno how many but littered with experience pros. Just don't see Saints investing what we made in fees coming in like Les said. Or did I get that wrong?
I don't think we'll spend £120m, but then I really don't want us to. We'd be buying about 12 players at £10m, or we'd be spending £20m on players who aren't worth it. Genuine £20m players don't go to clubs like us. Harsh but true!
