I thought Harry had said he wanted to stay in the end.

Another gap to be filled - Harry seems relaxed, gliding serenely downriver towards August 16. Hope his little webbed feet are paddling like mad under the surface

Got to balance the books somewhere - probably one of our few sellable players...After a season out with a cruciate knee ligament injury it would also have been a gamble to rely on him, especially given that he hardly set the league alight last time.

Would have liked to have seen if he could have cut it with us - lets hope it signals that we've a new midfielder coming soon!

Leaves us with just 21 contracted players.

But that includes Cesar, Henry, Wright-Phillips, Taarabt, Remy - who have all been linked with moves or who you wouldn't think would play much part.

So take them all out it leaves just 16 contracted players. Very very thin squad.

Agree, but then if a player wants to go elsewhere, difficult to stop them.

Probably Spanish playing style suits him more.

We are now about as short on decent CM players as we are on strikers, and Granero seemed a very good player to me when he played for us in the PL, even if he didn't really set things alight. I remember a sublime pass to Adel for his brilliant goal at West Brom. So for me it isn't good news at all, I just hope Arry has got about 3 good CM players on the way in, attacking, defensive, and someone a bit more all round like Granero.

Very much doubt that we got anywhere near back what we laid out on this guy. Glad we have severed another link to the Hughes era.

Well what an absolute flop of a signing that was! I wonder what our net losses on Granero were?

That is such a wonderful metaphor Goldie - almost distracted me from the very worrying message that it carries!

Mind you, Harry, part-man, part-bird, doesn't bear thinking about too closely!

To be fair to Granero, how many of our players did set the league alight last time around. He did have a good start, but faded away quite quickly. Maybe the team spirit, or rather lack of it, had the worst impact on him, who knows? I'm one of those who would have liked to see him take this "second chance" too, think with the morale in current team he could have been far better than two years ago. A bit disappointed to see him go, but wish him all the best in Real Sociedad.

Bought for £6m and sold for £4m, £2m loss in fees alone. Don't think we made much out of his loan that was cut short by injury last season, add in wages around £40k p/w and that's another £4m. So something like £6m is what he's cost us with very little return. Maybe it's a couple of mill's less if we were covered by insurance during his injury period. Still a dark transfer in the history of our club.

I still think he is a good man, the right sort and very talented. Just didn't work out. **** happens. I don't blame him at all.

Me too mate. Only way we could recoup our expenditure on him was for him to deliver this season. Unfortunately now we will never know for sure.

Wrong move for both parties really. He always seemed a bit off the pace and as the team imploded he never got to grips with it. Will be remembered mostly for that 1st half at Spurs where he and Ale toyed with a strong Tottenham side before we gave it away. I wish him well...
