Working in a coffee bar/ice cream parlour type place.

However, having read comments from other people about the company online and who they employ, I'm not so surprised...

Oh come now, DTLW you're much more capable than doing that stuff. I suppose it's having to earn a crust that makes you have to go for these things.

You want to try telling my mother that... I've tried, and it doesn't cut the mustard.

What does he think he's trying to be..? He says he's on the streets of Southend [I think]. Is there some special part of the Bronx that is forever Southend..?

    I shudder too.

Crikey, just realised, this is where you live. Oops. :)

Haha, I wondered much the same! It's fine.

He's from a very rough part of Southend. Real close to McDonald's, though... ;)

I'm sitting here balls-deep in contracts and thinking this is sort of related to law. I'm really desperate to convince myself my degree is being used for something.

Oh come on, who gives a **** if he smokes aside from Arsenal? They pay him to play football (and get injured a lot), not to raise anyone's kids. I have this argument from parents that their kids copy what they see on TV all the time, who bought the ****ing TV? Charles Barkley had it right, we're in some serious trouble if we're looking to athletes as role models for children. For numerous reasons.

A degree is what gets you the job...many people never have jobs that directly involve their degree. If it concerns you (because you love the subject) keep looking for more relevant jobs...much easier to find a job when you have a job. The proviso I would add is don't leave it too long as you can get in a rut...a few sideways moves, adding to your cv all the time, could get you where you want to be if the direct route doesn't work.

If I were a betting person I'd bet plenty of people do.

And indeed we are in serious trouble if we thrust athletes and sports people into the role of role models for children. But society does. That's the reality. Personally, I'd love it if professional football had a much lower profile, so that it didn't happen, but it doesn't, so players have to live with it, as they otherwise go from one good time to another.

Don't like smoking...think it's moronic, but have even given up trying to stop my son smoking...at least I will probably die first anyway. But even I thought the furore over Wilshere was ridiculous...he wasn't shooting up for heaven's sake.

But isn't that part of the problem? That actions so minor are made into a big deal by those who want to get all moral about it?

    Probably.

My criticism wasn't that he smoked. Personally, I don't give a monkey's what he does to himself. It's the attitude he purveys.

It's the... Oops, got caught. Never mind, I'll say a few contrite words and everyone will be placated... attitude.

In my opinion, he doesn't believe it. He's not really bothered. It's just PR.

I'm torn on the morality of this particular issue, but I think we can all agree Wilshere's a bit of a tool.

I'd be annoyed if I was Wenger or an Arsenal fan, but no one else should be. It's up to him if he wants to risk getting lung cancer.

Smoking is so old fashioned. Someone should come up with a wacky, "cool" alternative for the kids to get into. Maybe something like gargling mouthwash, but with an attitude somehow.
