Welcome Dejan Lovren

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by Hash., Jul 27, 2014.

  1. Yet again, we should all bow to Tobes' superior knowledge of a player. Not only does he know our targets better than us, he also knows our actual players better too. Fair play, that's one dedicated Bitter right there <applause>

No the season I was f**ing talking about <doh>

Only his injuries and Brent's obligation to play his £18m misfit put Agger out of the picture last season.

Anyone who thinks that Skrtel is is a better CB and defender than Agger has got rocks in their head

I'm not a huge fan of Skrtel as I kept pointing out last year. Despite a lot of people saying he was very good, he does a lot of thigns which annoy me. However as a defender I'd look for ability to tackle, win a header, marking and then distribution as important things.

Skrtel beats Agger on the first 3 of those. Agger can't tackle, cant mark and isn't as dominant in the air as him. 100 times better with the ball at his feet though.

Agger is a great defender, but hasnt been on his game for a couple of seasons now. Hope he stays and gets back to the level he can play at. Understand if he does go though.

Dejan Lovren looks like Sonny Bill Williams, (especially in the black tank top.) Which means he must be a ****ing beast

I don't know if Agger was ever a great defender really - a good one, occasionally very good I would say.

He always had Carra or Sami there doing the real defending whilst he distributed it and importantly banging in the odd 20 yarder.

Then there are the injuries which means he cannot find form.

You never know next to Lovren might actually work.

Agger is very far from being the player he was. As a defender Skerts is far better. Agger has no tackle resilience and we've seen very little of those forward thrusts or wicked shots.

I like Agger but its time to go.

I agree with Tobes that Agger should be playing more (nice of him to care about our well being). He is underrated by many. Think he should start over Skrtel. Most of our clean sheets last season were with him, say what you will.

However he has faults (marking and set pieces) and an absolute majority of fans have turned on him for a few seasons now, so that part of his argument is him chatting **** tbh.

Back to the point Lallana is injured and I expect Markovic to shine and keep his spot. He will get tired as will one of Coutinho and Sterling so I'm sure there will be plenty opportunities to come into the squad.

The squad doesn't have the Suarez appeal of course but honestly we are stronger as a team in every position. We've also spent 2 seasons making sure that we have a system in place where Rodgers gets signings he wants and that will fit our style. We look to be strengthening all positions - striker is the final piece of the puzzle. Sturridge can step in and shine as the focal point. There came a point last season where their relationship looked to be breaking and Suarez's presence had a negative effect on Sturridge's form.

We need to discover the next young thing. Mitrovic at Anderlecht will be the next Benzema but I don't think we are looking for that style of striker.

Can we not please focus on the number of leans this guy gave us.... Seriously when a guy outs his heart and soul into leaning to please the fans we ought to recognise that

I'd now seriously hope Rodgers doesn't bottle it and pick 3 cbs as it's a pointless waste of a shirt more needed in midfield

    Take note uir and lvg

We arent but we can make do. We won't be worse than last year because... They are last years fullbacks. Flanno will be a bit better and Enrique will be a massive boost. Striker is still key.

I agree with the sentiment "make do" as we've seen for years sides do precisely this in these slots. I totally agree that i had to choose just one I'd also buy a top striker.

Arbeloa shows what making do and investing wisely can do at full back.

however side that win titles usually don't just make do these days. Even utd in their pomp didn't quite make do with irwin at left full as he was a top little player even on the wrong side... cheslea made do last year by mourinhos choices

I'll be p*ssed off if Flanno or Johnson are our starting full backs next season.

Flanno is a good back up so he can still play some role at the club but Johnson is merely posing as a professional footballer now.
