See Jack Payne has been named captain for the coming season. Interesting choice but he seems to be relishing the opportunity. Congratulations Jack ...... no doubt the ET will love the headline opportunities that will provide http://www.theposh.com/news/article/20140717-captain-jack-1764237.aspx
An interesting chat between Darragh MacAnthony and Darren Ferguson......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPPd0yllBbo
That was good, although I could have done without having to watch Darragh scratching so much Can't wait to see some of the youngster they are talking about play

Joe Newell is out for up to 6 weeks after breaking his toe in Tuesday evening's game. Hard luck for the young lad, but of little concern as far as the Posh team goes, he has hardly performed to a decent standard over the last 18 months.
Peterborough United have signed Tottenham Hotspur winger Kenny McEvoy on a season-long youth loan with the 19-year-old completing the paperwork on Thursday morning. The Republic of Ireland under 19 international joined the Spurs Academy in 2011 and the Waterford-born midfielder has been a regular in the Spurs under 21 side. The winger will go straight into the Posh squad for Saturday's pre-season friendly with Brighton and Hove Albion at London Road. McEvoy said: "This is an opportunity for me to come and try and break into the first team and get some experience under my belt. It is my first loan spell so I just have to try and impress in training. It is good that I have been able to join in pre-season as I can get to know the lads before the season starts. "I first heard of the interest a few weeks ago, but it has been quite a hectic time because I only really found out for certain this morning (Thursday). Playing in the youth cup was a good experience for me, playing in front of decent crowds," he said. He is an intelligent player, he understands the game tactically and can play in numerous roles. I have had a good chat with him, he is raring to go. He will play 30 minutes on Saturday. He is a bit behind, he has only played 45 minutes so far this pre-season, but we will get him up to speed. I am pleased to get him on board, he fits the profile, everyone has seen we have that in abundance and we want to keep adding to that," Ferguson said. With the signing of RB Michael Smith (highly rated by Bristol Rovers, club and fans) it would seem the final piece of the jigsaw is now in place. A quality player in every position and good back up options. A probable line-up for the first match of the season from: ALNWICK/OLEJNIK SMITH, BALDWIN, ZAKUANI, NTLHE MCEVOY/OZTUMER, BOSTWICK/ANDERSON/PAYNE, TAYLOR ASSOMBALONGA, WASHINGTON/VASSELL Bostwick did a good job at Right Back against Wolves on Tuesday night, with Michael Richens, Adam Drury (if he stays), Santos and Brisley Posh look to have a decent defensive unit. With Bostwick, Payne, McCann, Anderson and Conlon vying for a spot in CM, the likes of Taylor, NM-L, Oztumer and McEvoy for the wide positions Midfield looks quite strong for a change. In-form Kyle Vassell is pushing Britt and Conor hard for a starting place up front. I am looking forward to Saturday's game to see how the new boys play as well as the return of CMS
Showing my ignorance here but where does the young Adam play? Don't think so with the arrival of Smithy
Highly rated by both the Bristol staff and fans, was their player of the season. Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick (former England u21) who has played in the Premiership and Championship as well as League 1 has joined Posh on a 3 year deal. He left Leyton Orient after playing only one game earlier this year, having his contract cancelled by 'mutual consent' as he was suffering from 'unspecified medical problems' which prevented him from training or playing. (Sounds like something in your area of expertise Minxy) According to Darragh we snatched him from under the nose of a Championship club ho were about to sign him. My guess is it was the lure of being 1st choice keeper and playing regularly was the lever rather than wages, Ben has played relatively few first team games in his career.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSeSQznviw Enjoyable viewing, hopefully Britt can repeat the feat this season and then, with a few more goals from the Midfield, we should be looking at Championship football for 2015/16
Had a chat with Bobby O while we were out walking our dogs this evening, he was a pleasure to talk to. He was non-committal (only to be expected) about his prospects with the arrival of Ben Alnwick, though he did say he was not asking the club for more wages merely a year's extension to his current contract. It would seem to me that the club are baulking at this because obviously he was brought in on Championship wages and that is not sustainable at League One level. He is certainly looking forward to the new season and getting Posh back to the Championship if no deal is agreed with another club.
