Because certain followers of the Religion of Peace wish to earn their 72 virgins.

I travelled by ferry from Spain to Morocco and spent all day there but not a night
I travelled through Germany and stayed in a hotel but that was just to rest while driving through
I have seen Russia about 25 years ago but that was just a border tower with guards and guns
I spent a day in Slovakia but not a night - I'll have to wait until Wednesday night for that!

    I'm not AKCJ.

Yes, I have stayed at least a night in all of those countries.

Usually when I have gone on holiday I have gone to multiple countries over the weeks I go away.

Cba to read all of this thread, so I don't know whether it's already been mentioned, but personally I couldn't give a f### about hanging around in slightly frustrating airports, no I'm more concerned about the potential siting of SAM's along my proposed route!

Why did you go to Vietnam and Laos? My history teacher has travelled all over Southeast Asia, I'm not sure why though.

I had relatives in Thailand, decided to go to Vietnam and Laos while I was there.

I've always had an interest in history, particularly military, so Vietnam and Laos, along with Cambodia, were places I've wanted to go for a while.

From a historical standpoint, Southeast Asia is rich in it. There are a lot of individual kingdoms spread across it that date back to the 2nd century BCE, and has been a key point in things such as trade and colonisation from China, Europe and Japan among many others.

We did a bit about the colonial history of Southeast Asia at college, particularly Indochina. The focus of the course is mainly about the Cold War in Asia so the history of communism in that area dominated my first year. Have you ever thought about going to Malaysia? That's another kingdom in Southeast Asia with a rich and interesting history.

I considered it, but I don't think I'll be going anywhere outside of Europe for a while. I'm moving to Germany after University (technically I'm moving this summer, but will hardly be there outside of the summers), so that has cost a lot.

Flying for business isn't half as bad as flying for pleasure.

Less luggage, less screaming kids, less excitement, quicker boarding.

Basically easier, faster and more streamlined.

    I agree.

Live in Rutland if you work in Leicester. Far better.

    East Midlands a nightmare
I had to demand to go through fast track because they seemed quite happy to see me miss my flight.
Mind you it's no better coming back on North Sea Ferries they seem to think it's ok to have one person checking 1,200 passports
    Ain't travelling fun

Passport checking is the work of the Immigration Service, part of the Home Office. Airports would be delighted if they provided more staff, but have no say in the matter.

I'm also guessing that the Immigration staff at individual airports would love to have more support, but with cuts in public service provision across the board, that's not likely. At least we're all in it together.
