It doesn't make sense rejecting a good offer from us, 12 months left on contract and doesn't look like he'll sign another one. Come January they'll be lucky to receive £1m for him
If Maguires any sense, he'll run his contract down now and we'll sign him in January like we did with Long. Even better if we sign him next year, no risk of injury on our part and a years more experience for him.
He could, he'd play like Chester does. Relying on pace and positioning rather than strength and power.
You lot don't half speak some tripe. How about you look at the bigger picture...........Harry Maguire is another product of a very productive and successful youth academy system. He's been at the club from a very earlier age and has been moulded into a steady and capable young Centre back. Since breaking into the first team set up in the Championship he has come on heaps and bounds and at 21 years old has played 130+ first team games which is very rare for a defender of his age. For this reason his experience and ability is well above somebody of his age which is why he has been repeatedly attracting scouts from teams much bigger than Hull City. For the last 2 years scouts from Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been regular visitors to Bramall Lane to keep an eye on Maguire. Harry Maguire is contracted to Sheffield United Football Club FACT. We have received significant investment into the operating funds that our club has and our new board of directors have told the manager that in no way what so ever do we need to sell any player. For all of the reasons above the club has a valuation that has been placed on the player. We don't need to sell the player so unless a bid is received that meets the valuation and forces the hand a bit then he is staying with Sheffield United. We don't need to accept less, we are not in a position where we have to accept less, we are in a position where we can gamble for another season and if we miss out on money from the sale of Maguire then so be it however the club has it's aims solely set on promotion this year and believes that we can achieve that and that as a Championship club we will have a great deal more pulling power when brokering a new contract with Maguire. Try being rational and looking at the facts rather than speaking bias nonsense! Facts are facts!.......Just because we are currently a league one club you lot expect us to bow down to you and accept cheeky, below valuation bids? Give over!......Our Player, Our Hard Work, Our Valuation, Our Terms!......Simple as! And if you want some honest truths about Maguire......Do I think he is ready for Premier League and European football week in, week out? NO!.......He put in a couple of good shifts against lower league premier opposition in the FA Cup last year granted and handled it quite well. However Maguire is far from the finished article. He misses things, he gets beat for pace on the turn, he sometimes gets caught out of position as any young player learning the trade does. He is a very good, young, capable player with an extremely bright future ahead of him. This is why he attracting the top teams. This is why we keeping hold of him unless our valutation is met! This isn't about Hull City.....The same applied to Wolves and Fulhams cheeky offers as well.
I agree with you swift blade on all points there pretty much. Good to see a club stay firm rather than give in to player wishes
McG Rosy Chester Davies rob nice Huddlestone liver snodgrass Long. Jelavic Quite happy with that.... Brady, dudgeon, Elmo, Aluko,Meyler, Bruce, McShane to call on
Seems strange to me though a player with 12 months left on his contract and you're rejecting good offers, £2m for a L1 player is very generous. It doesn't seem like he will sign a new deal so you either lose him for a lot less in January or for virtually nothing in the summer
With ched evans and mcguire they have a decent chance of promotion. I would rather with squad we've got bring in players who are ready for the first team. If they don't do well I suspect we'll take him in 12 months time
Did any of those teams make a bid? Face it, Maguire wants to leave Sheffield United and next year he will, on a free transfer. Your club have just pissed away good money, Blackpool did the same with Ince, they'll be lucky to get anything over £1M at a tribunal and the same will apply to you next year.
Not really sure on Jenkinson on loan - why take a loan player when we have Rosey who is content with being back-up for both right and left back positions? Why bring in another teams player when we have one of our own under contract?
Ever heard of the phrase 'strength in depth'? You do realise Jenkinson would be first choice if he came, don't you?
I agree. Despite all of the experience he has at this age, I don't think his skill set transitions well to the Prem.
Agreed. From what I’ve read, their fans seem to think they’ve won some great victory in holding out, but yet, on the other hand, refer to him as ‘leadboots’ etc. and Championship standard at best. From what I’ve seen, read and heard £2 million would have been a good deal for them. It would have given them funds to bring in three or four quality players (at least) for that division giving them a great chance of going up. That said, judging by their arrogance, I think they believe that promotion is already in the bag anyway.
Yes you all seem to think promotion is nailed on........I have news for you all there are 23 other clubs who may well not agree with you and you have no god given right. Steve Bruce seems to think you keep moving the goal posts upward on price which as you say is you prerogative and ATM it is 'Our Player, Our Hard Work, Our Valuation, Our Terms!' however in 12 months time you if you don't sign him up (after jerking him around now he may well tell you to piss off) you will get around £500K down from £2M. Before you say 'He will re-sign for us' you need to use a little logic here. You are only going to be able to say to him 'We MAY be in the championship this time next season' where as he KNOWS at least 1 premier league wants him so there is no reason for him to sign for you when as a free agent he is premier league bound if as you say 'Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been regular visitors to Bramall Lane to keep an eye on Maguire. ' is true. I find it amazing that you class a £2M offer as 'cheeky' for a player from league 1. Full of your own importance it seems also it must be HUGE investment to turn your nose up at £1.5M.
Problem with the blades FANS is that they are so preoccupied with how fast Ciry has overtaken them in tespective clubs fortunes they scoff at either Maguire moving to us or staying with them , in their eyes either result is a win for them , Smells of small time Charlie's to me I know little of Maguire but going by their own fans he doesn't sound capable of holding down a place in a prem side ,
