Apparently NUFC are looking to make an opportunistic signing of Argentinian striker Facundo Ferreyra as the player does not wish to return to his club Shakhtar Donetsk due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

There is talk of the player buying out his contract, but also mention that NUFC would prefer a loan with a purchase clause. Not a bad goalscoring record - 22 goals in 28 games over the previous two seasons playing for Vélez Sársfield and Shakthar. Not the proven Premier League ready goalscorer we desperately need though.

I can't fathom why we don't just spend the fcking billions we have gathering dust on Lukaku. He'll clearly be worth well over 30m in a year or two and is already mint. Absolute no fking brainer even given our general brainlessness.

He'd be my number one choice by some distance.

Price mentioned is £17m. I'm sure we have that kind of money available? We should have, we've made an average gain of £45m on transfers over the last five years time to spend some of it.

I'd cry if you signed Lukaku. Real tears.

He's the business. He threatens defenders every time he gets the ball, he's a pleasure to watch. We haven't got the ambition to go for him, I don't think. Mind you, I reckon he can do better than Everton.

A fair chunk on Cabella. Should still be plenty spare, he's definitely worth a punt. No risk at all, he's top class.

I'm pretty shocked that Chelsea don't want to keep Lukaku as I would have thought he was a Mourinho player but failing that I just can't look beyond a Champions League club. He's one of those players who you keep asking yourself why managers don't seem to see what seems obvious to everyone else, he looks a quality player and has performed in the Premiership for two years at unfashionable clubs.

I can't see us getting near to signing Lukaku, I just fail to believe its possible. If - somehow - we did then I'd start to look at our midfield and fornt line in an entirely new light. Lukaku, Cabella, De Jong, Tiote, Sissohko, Gouffran backed by Anita, Ben Arfa?!?, Colback, Cisse, Riviere, Gutierrez. That'll do.

ps. We have gambles in Perez, Riviere and the youth players we are bringing through to back up Cisse as our main striker. We need someone with substance and experience to come in as a first teamer rather than a cheap option we pick up because we see an opportunity. I don't know anything about Ferreyra and maybe we'll get him and he'll be ace but I can't see it.

I can't find the link so this has to go down as hearsay, but I read earlier today that Lukaku has already agreed to sign for Everton in the next few days and that Chelsea had agreed to sell. The same article also said that the agreed fee is approx £18 million and that other English clubs had matched the valuation but that the player was only willing to consider Everton if he could not get a champions league place. It didn't say who the other club(s) were.

At that price he's a steal and I would have loved us to get him, but it looks like he's going back to Everton.

Aren't Everton meant to be totally skint?

I'm not sure they've spent the Fellaini money yet, but even if they have then £85.2 million for finishing 5th wont have hurt their coffers!

I think from what I can find out that they are operating ok financaily for the last set of accounts to January 2014, operating profit of £0.7 million, previous accounts filed show a loss of £9 million, the problem they face is that the club has an overdraft facilty held against future PL award payments, last note on loans was in excess of £44 million. The club has been run very frugaly over the years and it has not got any member of its board, who own the shares, with the very deep pockets should things go wrong, Lukaku would be a great catch but at a price, £18 million basic plus I would think that Chelsea would factor in a sell on fee, wages of at least £80k per week with a possible sliding upwards scale based on goals etc for year 2 and onwards. When you consider say a 4 year contract that is a basic outlay of nearly £40 million in purchase and wages for one player at a club that are run so tightly on the financial margins.

Which is why we can rule NUFC out too. Someone like Ferreyra is far more likely - untried, may not be good enough, but cheap and with extenuating circumstances possibly lowering his price further.

Agreed ..Its the footballing equivalent of Sports Direct zero hour contracts.

Actually 'investing' in a player is seen as having no value to the management of NUFC. A CHEAP body to fill a need is all that is important.
