Real conflict of interests for me, I bleed England but was president of Hannah Mileys swimclub and worked with her father Patrick to turn the club around, have to say that my nation wins over my personal past involvement. Strange to see the medal table not updated straight away could that be the England effect?
Ha ha - yes that's definitely something I'm looking forward to! I love the Commonwealths though - the 78 ones were the first multi sport event i really remember - Brendan foster beating Henry Rono, the first real glimpse of Daly Thompson and riding my bike pretending to be Hugh Porter. I think that just shows that kids were easily pleased in the 70s .
Apart from the Asian players those sports are pretty much played by those in Commonwealth! Generally the snooker players are called as being from England, Scotland etc. I bet the non-sporting fans are writing in their droves to Points of View to complain about more sport.
I think I would have gone for personal over country in your circumstances Aberdeen- and have to say Hannah swam magnificently ansd deserved her gold. Good on her
It was a cracking race - showed serious guts to come back in the free style as she looked beaten after the breast stroke. Great stuff.
Saw Tom Gallichan of Jersey win his heat earlier - I just wish the commentators would check the pronunciation of CI names. Gallichan is a "true" CI name so the chan part is pronounced as the French do (shon). If they get that wrong, I dread to think of the mess they would make of Le Quesne! (Le Cain)
It was a good race to watch (especially if you are English). However I feel Alistair was fortunate to avoid a time penalty on the last leg.
Comngratulations to 60 year old Mick Gault winning his 18th medal in the shooting. Hope for all of us yet maybe?!
I know a couple of races were his mistakes but this has happened so often now, if I were him, I'd be wondering why is it always my car, why is it never Rosberg's?
