The biggest surprise was how long it took for that line of commentary to come out, one and a half years!

That said, i believe Marcus Ericsson's sole purpose on the grid is to make Max look good, I'm sure he's an employee of his father, how the hell can he be as near as makes no difference a second slower than Chilton and 1.6 seconds slower than his own team mate? And he's been there all weekend (and not for the first time this season either with those margins).

How is a busted fuel line driver error? I'm genuinely curious. Don't really know much about the mechanical side.

    I didn't say it was!

It wasn't, it's just one of those things that shouldn't fail but somehow seems to have through no fault of anyone. (except perhaps the people that made said fuel line/union/whatever failed)

Rosberg has had two issues this season. But in Canada Hamilton also had the same issue. People say Hamiltons brake went because he was pushing too hard but it was down to the fact of the hot air coming off rosbergs car, whilst rosberg was in clear air and not having to follow someone. Then, Perez helped him out holding everyone back for so long. Rosberg has had the lions share of luck, end of question.

What about Australia? Spark plug rubber? Mechanics don't check those things before they send out a car? Hamilton has had 4 car failures so far..right now mercedes seems to have pulled back the blame on the brake manufacturer..so maybe it was a mercedes problem that caused the brake to explode too. I am not saying sabotage or anything like that all I am saying is that mercedes mechanics on lewis side of the garage isn't doing a good enough job.. You can't tell me that after P3 you check the car and get it ready for Q1 and it fails before you can get in your first lap? I remember in P1 Lewis complained that there was something wrong with his brakes.. I mean mercedes? Hmmmm.

Nikki Lauda doesn't sound too happy:

Lewis Hamilton believes a top ten finish on Sunday will be difficult despite the pace advantage the Mercedes has over its rivals.
The Briton looks likely to start from the pitlane after an engine fire during the first part of qualifying ended his session before he could even set a timed lap.
Despite finishing second in Germany last weekend after starting from a similar position, he doesn't believe a similar feat can be achieved in Hungary where overtaking is much harder.
"I think it is getting to the point where it is beyond bad luck," he said.
"I bailed out of that timed lap I was doing. Something happened to my brakes, something on the brake system failed, I had to engage some settings to try and correct it and then the engine just died.
"I thought, I'm right next to the pit entry, I'll roll back and try and get them to fix it. Then I looked in my mirrors and I was on fire.
"It was on fire, but I was still trying to get it to the garage, I thought maybe they could do something, but they said stop, stop, stop.
"I don't know what I can do tomorrow. It's a track you can't overtake on. I'll struggle to get into the top ten tomorrow, definitely the top five."
Mercedes chairman Niki Lauda called Hamilton's constant reliability troubles unfair and said pole and a race win was almost certain at a track where the 29-year-old usually excels.
"It's completely unfair, especially here where it is so hard to overtake," he said. "Two races in a row.
"He would have been fastest today and won the race no question."

That's one of the reasons why the introduced parc ferme regulations after qualifying years ago. Sometimes mechanics would 'over-tinker' with cars, checking, double checking, then breaking something that was fine to begin with!

After parc ferme regs came in, the overall reliability of F1 cars increased!

It is frustrating, but suggesting there is something more to it just gives the Hammy-bashers more reason to come on here and let rip.

I am not saying that there was sabotage or anything like that don't get twisted... All I am saying is that maybe they need to look at the mechanics to see if they are doing all they can to make the car safe and reliable before sending it out there on the track. There are several mercedes engined cars out there and one with exactly the same specs as Hamilton's.. When his alone keeps having these bad failures then you have to wonder if his side of the garage is doing a good enough job. In two races he has car failures in less than three laps. That isn't good for mercedes brand at all is it?

Remember last year red bull were stripping down Vettel's car and putting it back together right before Q1? Maybe mercedes need to have a most closer look to see what they are doing wrong.

Do you not reckon they do that anyway after every failure?

It's fair to say that he's having some truly appalling luck at present. This title just seems to not be on the cards for Hamilton.

On the plus side, as a supporter of Hamilton, at least we'll get to see him racing, which is more exciting to watch than being out front all afternoon. :)

What about before a failure? Do you think they do a good enough job ensuring thing are safe and reliable? I don't know. All the top dogs at the team are apologizing for letting him down saying it is unfair to him...why do you keep letting him down? Hey this is the mercedes brand we are talking about here. They need to do a lot better..IMO.

It's motorsport, cars break from time to time. Simple really.

Oh... What I meant to say is that Hamilton was clearly pushing that car too hard. It's his own fault. :p

I'm not sure why Rosberg or Hamilton say there would prefer to be fighting their team mate for the world championship. History only remembers winner, not how they got there. If I'm Rosberg I'd be thinking, your problems Hamilton are not my problems, this titles mine....

Anyway Lauda doesn't seem too impressed with this and it seems he is putting some pressure on Paddy Lowe to get to the bottom of these failures.

    It's all a con.

They're sabotaging Hamilton so he can start towards the back and make the race more interesting as he comes through the filed. If they did that to Rosberg he'd finish last as we all know he's a wet blanket at overtaking, right?

In the meantime, they are making sure Rosberg wins the tile so a German-ish driver can win the title in a German-ish car, so great for PR and marketing.

Mercedes gets credit and glory for the win, and for putting some interest into the race too. Win-win for them.

There, all cleared up now. Lets' go racing.

If that's your analysis of the situation I don't share it at all. I just think that Hamilton's side of the garage need to do a lot better. Now let's go racing shall we?
