It goes like this... KL is in the process of getting back the money her family invested. We are a medium sized premier league club with a brand new and well respected academy. At some point in the non to distant future when we are pottering along in 15th position or thereabouts each year she will sell to the highest bidder making a very tidy profit on the work NC did for her. Ron's profile will have risen by keeping a young side in the premier league with maybe a Wembley visit a la Hull last season, then he will be off.. The big dream is over, get used to staying top of the bottom 6 and the odd cup run..

I think one of the issues appears to be that in the wake of NC's departure, and if not NC's then certainly MP's departure, players appear to have come to some sort of pact or mutual agreement that it won't go any further than it has and now it's every man for himself to get the best deal with their next career move.

Which is sad for us, but makes complete sense for them.

It's pretty well known. They both want new contracts but have had minimal contact. Fonte gave quotes to a newspaper that weren't published talking of how unhappy he was, and you only need to look at Alan Cork's Twitter to see the impression he's getting from Jack.

Yep the dream is dead, long live the reality. (Can't get CL at Saints move to a bigger club that's in it)

Dan is right, both José and Jack have been unhappy with the club and particularly with the management of their contract situation.

Ah OK, plus I guess that if you see your team mates going to big clubs you may be forgiven for thinking "do these clubs not think I'm good enough" and if that's the case, moral takes another hit.

Giving Jack and Jose contracts (and getting them to sign them) would raise fan morale no end. We'd even stop thinking about new signings for...a couple of hours :)

It's hard to begin to explain how bad a piece of business selling chambers would be - so much potential

He asked to go. We had to get the best price possible for what he is worth now.

Ugh we're having the same conversation across 4+ threads

    1. Someone asked why its taking longer to buy than to to sell. The answer is simple. The clubs that are buying from saints are the very top of england, all of them either will be in the CL next year or have a very realistic prospect of playing CL in 2 seasons. We don't have that nor do we have the financial power challenge top teams for the best players..so we have to scout, haggle and negotiate to get players as opposed to LFC, Man U etc who can pretty much get any player they have interest in.

    2. None of us know exactly what the top brass are thinking but if you look at the various ITK sources none of them have indicated any sort of asset stripping so we should assume that what we are seeing is a domino effect of the early sales that have unsettled the players, agents and staff and made them easy targets.

    3. Similarly none of us have the clairvoyance to see what and how many players will be coming in so any guesses as to how we will do in the coming season are totally arbitrary until the end of the transfer window.

Did he? Do we just throw in the towel whenever someone does that? Or are we clearing out all the " Cortese is our father figure" remnants and starting afresh

Sorry to be anal, but you had three choices of there/they're/their to play with - and you got both wrong.

Thanks, LTL - bit of a pet peeve of mine, I'm afraid. Nearly drives me as crazy as not hearing anything about what's happening from the board ................

It's interesting - when you teach a language to a student, you improve their ability by correcting them when they go wrong. However, if you do so to a native speaker, you're castigated for being a "grammar Nazi". Should we perpetuate incorrectness for fear of offending people? Or is that part of the problem I wonder........either way, I'm not saying that to be mean - I'm saying it in the hope someone might make the effort to improve or might want to learn. It does matter...but people seem to get very offended if it's pointed out.

Learning is actually good and fun.
