There have been a bunch of articles lately about the increase in pre-season tours to the US. This year in the US there are 20 European teams that are doing tours. I am off to watch WBA and try to get a photo with Myhill later today myself. PL teams here right now are Arsenal, Villa, CP, Liverpool, Man City, Man U, Swansea, Spurs, WBA. They are clearly attempting to capitalize off the rapid growth of interest in the sport here. I wonder if we are not dropping the ball with two straight trips to Portugal for training, before that it was 2 to Slovenia I think. Our preseason games have all been in Portugal or England the last 4 years. If we want to grow our "brand" and increase foreign revenue it might be prudent to follow everyone else's lead and do our training or preseason in a place like the US.
You make a good point, huge potential fanbase and i'm sure a lot of us would happily plan holidays around it!
We'd have to form some sort of link with a big team. If we could get into one of those sponsored tournaments with the likes of United, Roma etc then we might actually get some big crowds, otherwise I reckon the club might not thin it cost effective. Maybe try an asian tour with our big tigerness
Both Van Gaal and Wenger have been critical of their pre-season tours taking them all across the states. I read that Manyoo players could have ended up flying 13,000 miles in 10-14 days. It wouldn't surprise me if things look a little different next closed season. Neither Van Gaal or Wenger are fussed about ruffling sponsors feathers.
