QPR still interested in Johnson. They have been in talks over the summer and might well go back in for him again now that they've finished their other defensive signings. He wanted more wages than they were prepared to offer, but will look to giving a longer deal instead. Us getting (probably) the RB on loan whose name I can't spell is a good sign that he's likely to be on the move. Happy days!
If we can get a LB then that would enable us to rid ourselves of Johnson. Flanno and the Spanish Kid for RB, Enrique and new LB. But please not Bertrand.
I think the Moreno deal is still on the table and maybe chasing Bertrand is a negotiation tactic to show we have other options and won't be held to ransom The social media explosion of hatred against the idea of Bertrand is ruining that plan though
But our current signings were made in spite of Suarez going. We needed bigger depth in the squad and quality to compete and at least stay still. Now Suarez has gone we need to replace his quality. Now that'll be tough but 2 big signings could well go along the way of doing that.
I don't understand the Lambert signing - other than the fact that he's a Scouser, he's big and he's only £4m. Vidal is one of the best central midfielders in the world - I would give my left b*llock for him. Started as a DM but he's so good, he can play as box to box and attacking mid as well. I still feel we are looking for one last attacker though.
Our strike force now is Sturridge, Lambert and Remy. That doesn't feel me with a lot of confidence tbh - I still feel we need 1 more top class attacker, with Remy being the back up.
If we field a fortified midfield rather than 3 forwards, we may improve defensively more than we lose offensively. Unfortunately with all the attack minded players we have signed, I feel Rodgers may go out top-heavy gunning for the beautiful win
Surely one would have to give their left boll*ck and the other their right. That way Juve will have a complete set of boll*cks to play with
I think one of the reasons we always played 2 up front was because we simply couldn't leave either one of SAS out, when both fit. I think we'll see a different formation this season with Sturridge as our main man up top and a more compact Midfield, with Markovic and Sterling on the flanks - with either Coutinho or Lallana playing in the number 10 role. With a solid compact 2 in midfield, with Marovic and Sterling dropping back to do their defensive duties (which both are more than capable of) - this would be problematic, but the pace they both have means thay can get back and still burst forward on te counter.
Last season those three scored a combined total of 47 goals with Sturridge and Remy being injured last season. They do similar numbers this season and were just fine.
