Had a look at the DVD's I've accumalated over the years many bought on impulse which seemed a good idea at the time but these days don't see the light of day. So I pulled out Pulp Fiction and had forgotten how many stars appeared in this film, John Travolta, Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis, Timothy Roth, Christopher Walken, Quinten Tarrentino, and not forgetting Uma Thurman all in all quite an enjoable film. I will have to raid my collection more often.
The Grand Budapest hotel . A treat from start to finish . And funny ........laugh out loud moments aplenty . 9/10.
Haven't watched a film since the start of the World Cup. Any new films out on DVD you would recommend?
The Wolverine Okay. Some decent fight scenes but the 12 rating killed it, loads of deaths but little in the way of blood, like the A team's gunfights.
Under the skin . Scarlett Johanson as an alien white van man , cruising the streets of Glasgow picking up the local neddery and doing away with them in a manner that can only be described as original . I sat through this movie thinking wtf is going on here . I kept watching in the belief that all would become clear . I am none the wiser . What a load of pretentious pish . If you like long lingering close ups of the back of Scarlets napper then you'll love this . There is also quite a few nice scenic shots of the highlands that left me thinking "yes that lovely but was there any need to stay on that shot for 15 ****ing minutes" After watching it I checked out IMDb to see how they rated it . 7.1 and 80% on rotten tomatoes ??????? I dare say they must have seen sommit I didn't . Mibbe it's far too intelligent for a simpleton like me . 4/10 and that's 2 points cos Scarlett got her kit off .
The Way, Way Back Boring, unfunny and pointless. I usually like Steve Carrell films but Sam Rockwell aside, this was poor. Got good reviews too. Man of Steel Started well then tailed off in the second half. I don't usually bother with comic book movies but thought I'd watch it because of Nolan's involvement. National Lampoon's Holiday A bit hit and miss, but generally good entertainment. Not as good as the Christmas sequel but funny in a puerile way. The Borderlands Paranormal Activity-style religious horror. I love The Exorcist, The Omen, Amityville Horror etc so thought I'd give it a go. Most of it is pretty watchable, but the end is a bit crap.
Build My Gallows High Classic film noir from 1947 with Robert Mitchum and a very young Kirk Douglas. Bit ropey in places and the dialogue contains all the usual cliches but enjoyable enough.
