Maybe we'll be seeing the back of Wonga before long - the name that may be on the shirts instead? Fruity King. Yeah!

The head of marketing of a newly-launched mobile casino brand has claimed that they’re looking to secure a record-breaking shirt sponsorship deal with Newcastle United.

Phillip Jones works for Fruity King, a brand news tech start-up specialising in mobile betting.

Jones told Winner Sports: “We have a healthy budget, we want to work with a Premier League team.

He was then pushed to name a club and said: “Yes, Newcastle United, we are willing to pay a record breaking figure.”

Newcastle signed a £24m four-year stadium and shirt sponsorship deal with payday lender Wonga in October 2012. The loan shark became shirt sponsor at the start of the 2013/14 season and the deal comes an end with the 2015/16 season.

There has been pressure on the Magpies to bring an end to their partnership with Wonga, but that looks unlikely. However, with Fruity King seemingly willing to throw big money at the Toon – who knows what may happen.

How is it that Man united get 90million pounds for just their premier league kit and we somehow can only get 6 million for shirt and stadium....

Probably something to do with the respective trophy cabinets... Also, Man Utd upper management spend a lot of time and energy boosting their overseas brand. It's grown hugely in recent years. Just one example is that whilst ambitious clubs have preseason publicity drives such as Man Utd currently in USA, we have a preseason Sports Direct promotion over in New Zealand where they are planning to open some new stores.

We have a big following in the US and Asia so it always baffles me why we don't do more to tap into their respective markets. Oh that's right, Sports Direct don't have any stores there.

When you say a big following, how big? Not even comparable to Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and probably Man City, Tottenham and even Everton.

I'm in total agreement, though, this NZ tour is ill chosen. Nothing against our fans down there, but the market is tiny in comparison to the USA and China and it's been even more bizarre holding the 2 games in Dunedin (pop. 119k) and Wellington (pop. 398k), rather than Auckland (pop. 1.4m), not to mention the fact that we didn't even play the local team in Dunedin.

Wikipedia obviously couldn't give you the answer and you haven't read your clubs press-releases.

The whole tournament has been promoted as "Football United" which includes, Newcastle, West Ham, Sydney FC (Australia) & the Wellington Phoenix with the aim of promoting football in a rugby dominated market. If you research a little you'll find the wonderful comments made by Newcastle about forging links in Australasia with the view to unearthing affordable talent as they've done so in Europe.

The selected venues were chosen so as to guarantee the largest crowds & subsequent exposure with all the tour costs being under written by the Phoenix, including handsome appearance fees for the two UK clubs.

Wellington is now the home of football in New Zealand & the Wellington Phoenix whom play in the Australian A-League. The Westpac Stadium is the only stadium in NZ to to sell out for matches & as such has been used for the last two WC Intercontinental play-offs that were held in South Africa & Brazil. Population means nothing as it's the attendance figures that count. Westpac will be sold out for the double-header on Saturday with 34,500. The Auckland match between West Ham & the Phoenix last night was just over 19K in a 50K Eden Park & Forsyth Bar in Dunedin got 10K in a 30K.

You might like to read Alan Pardew's post match comments in which he praised the hospitality & opportunity to play important preseason games in a new market.

We look forward to welcoming all visitors to Wellington, including the Newcastle one's & trust you enjoy your time in the best little capital in the world.

Ps. The local teams in Dunedin are football loving amateurs who train in the evenings outdoors after work in around zero Celsius just for the love of football.

A lot of the press releases are obviously going to be diplomatic and talk up the tour but my point still stands - NZ isn't the best choice of tour destination. I think it's pretty easy to understand why that is true. NUFC would do far better forging links in other countries first, for commercial gain or developing talent. Not to say NZ and Australia wouldn't be worth forging ties with but they certainly shouldn't first on the list. I'd like to bet there is going to be more footballing talent coming out of the USA and China than NZ in the coming years and their market sizes dwarf NZ's or Australia's.

I'm not knocking NZ, just the club's choice of tour destinations. I've been to NZ twice and I love the place and the people, and I stayed in Wellington both times I visited and it's a lovely city (if a little windy). Glad to hear they are forging a good football team and following there.

Contrary, I believe Australasia is a good choice of destination as it's an easy to access market which has been very much under utilised (English speaking/non-corrupt) that can be learnt very quickly & cheaply. This is borne out by Manchester City FC's recent purchase of the Melbourne Heart, now renamed Melbourne City for the upcoming A-League season.

Obliviously the population of China & the USA would statically lead one to assume that they have the players but how well did China do at the most recent World Cup. To date any players traveling from Australia & NZ to China have returned very quickly with tales of woe. The USA on the other hand has the resources to tap into but then how many European clubs are already doing it there. The only clubs which mean anything in the USA are the top glamour clubs of which Newcastle are not. Whist they have an ex-pat following, so do all from my time spent living there including European clubs although it's much easier to find a Newcastle follower than Sunderland I might add. The young players on University Scholarships their are already well scouted.

West Ham showed great faith & trust recently in allowing Ernie Merrick, the Wellington Phoenix Coach a behind the scenes two week visit. The "new network" which is being set-up is to unearth new talent from a market that is as yet very untapped. Many young players from here have got to showcase their skills at an ever increasing number clubs due to coach affiliations with friends at second & third tier clubs like Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers & Glasgow Rangers over the past couple of years. Chelsea & Ajax now have official connections here so why not Newcastle.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I fully understand the small market in Australasia of around 27M compared to over 1.6B but your club in my opinion are showing great foresight. A few extra NUFC shirts sold in those markets is nothing for Ashley. Most in China will be fakes anyhow, just ask LFC or MUFC <somersault>

Ps. All the best for Saturdays game, I hope we can back up last nights win over West Ham & give you a good match <ale>:emoticon-0150-hands
