Your reasoning is all flawed and based on the ridiculously inflated price that Manure paid for Shaw, which has nothing to do with our deal, Ben Davies is no where near £15 Million in value and neither is Shaw for that matter, just because Manure are stupid enough to pay that has no bearing on Ben Davies value, Huw Jenkins has got us a great deal here, and we have come out on top with this deal in my view, who the hell had heard of Ben Davies 18 months ago? and we get a swap deal for Siggy of around £10 Million in value, great business in my books!................<ok>

I think I remember Laudrup not being at all bothered that Siggy did not wont to come here, suggesting better value in Europe and subsequently we got Michu.

I completely unimpressed with the deals as reported. Ben and Vorm undervalued and Siggy over priced. I have mentioned before I think part of the manager's job after Laudrup leaving was to persuade our better players to stay and if they can't be persuaded HJ had to get good value. I think this included Vorm & Ben. I did not get the impression that Vorm wanted to leave.

I think someone mentioned Taylor could play on right and also that he has often had itchy feet. In which case we should have sold him instead of Ben.

It appears Monk and HJ are breaking up Laudrup's team. They have both spoken of previous lack of ambition, well to me selling to easily also shows a lack of ambition.

I suspect some members will call this post doom and gloom but I can't remember selling so many first team players in one pre-season. Vorm Davies, Hernandez, Michu have been vital players over the last few years and difficult to replace with guaranteed equal quality and blend into team in such a short time.

Maybe some of these wanted to leave but many managers have to deal with players wanting to go and that's when managers and chairmen have to earn their money and our trust as supporters.

"Michael Laudrup today faced up to his first major challenge as Swansea City manager - keeping Gylfi Sigurdsson at the Liberty Stadium." - Mirror

"I would like him to stay - he did very well here" "It's a special case" - Laudrup

"Laudrup targets Gylfi stay, Michael Laudrup has said he would like to keep Gylfi Sigurdsson and has also ruled out wholesale changes at Swansea" - ClubCall

"Laudrup’s ambitions will have been made no easier by the collapse of Swansea’s £6.8million deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson." - Mail

When did Laudrup make any serious effort at Swansea?....................<laugh>

That's not the same thing and you know it. Siggy had made up his mind to leave and follow his mentor, Rodgers to Anfield. Then he got his head turned by the Spurs' offer with probably greater money and hoofed it to London instead. Siggy was on the up, chasing the big bucks, which was why he left.

The situation now is that he has flopped at Spurs, otherwise they wouldn't be selling him and, so far as the bigger clubs are concerned, his star is on the wane. This is the only reason that we, and those other Premier League "giants", Crystal Palace, are able to bid on him. Simple enough to follow, eh?

What are you talking about Phillip. My reasoning's flawed?!
FFS I took £10m off the Shaw deal and then 25 % again!
How about this reasoning?
Liverpool have a problem at left-back.
They've narrowed it down to 2/3 players they think can fill the role and have money burning a hole in their pocket.
They've bid 16 million big ones for Sevilla's young left back and it was rejected.
Why shouldn't we get £15m for our British home-grown left-back who they clearly think is the alternative option?
Go on, see if you can construct a logical argument?

We got fleeced by Levy because Monk wanted Siggy so badly...if we had waited a bidding war would have started between 'Pool and Spurs.
With the money this deal has cost us Siggy's real price is approx. £15m...Monk's decision, he'd better deliver.

Excuse me we are talking about Spurs, one of the richest clubs in the Prem who hadn't yet spent any money this summer and we also had Liverpool with all that Suarez money on the other line.

This deal was all about wanting Siggy now.

This comment was obviously stuck in to incite a response...which will then be met with the usual "he's gone forget him. Why does every thread turn into Laudrup vs Monk?".

So I'll be concise in my reply.
- 9th place
- only major trophy delivered
- last 32 of Europa at 1st attempt
- when he extended his contract instead of leaving for more money at bigger clubs
- recruitment
- managing and improving the players we had instead of telling them to "**** off" as they were signed by the previous manager.

I think you have been drinking? Neither Ben or Siggy are worth £15 Million, and Ben didn't exactly have a great season, and I actually think that we have kept our best LB in Taylor, to get Siggy for a swap with Ben is a great deal in my view, and Ben Davies has gone too soon, he's not the finished article that Siggy is, and Spurs are going to find that out this season, Levy hasn't had anything over Huw, but Jenkins certainly has over Levy!......................<ok>

Do try to keep up.
I'm not saying Siggy is worth £15m.
I'm saying he is worth £8m (...and only that much because Palace came in for him and bid that).
However, we reportedly paid £10m and sold Davies for £10m when we should have had £15m.

So the deal in total has cost us too much money, meaning we might as well have paid £13-15m for Siggy.

Ben is worth £15m in today's market, as I demonstrated in the earlier posts above.
Palace bid £8m for Siggy and we panicked, caved in to Levy's demands. He has swapped a fringe player for a new home-grown International left-back with 2 seasons already under his belt at 21/22 and the potential to grow his value.
He has potentially (a very good chance of) fixed his problem position with no risk whatsoever....and the Vorm deal is an absolute joke.
The deals being so cheap and the likes of Liverpool and Spurs taking the piss out of us with their bids smacks of a situation where a lot of our players want out and (through their agents) are making it known that they want out.

I guess the question is why didnt Brendan offer £16M for Ben then?

The Spurs changes need to be looked at in the collective i.e for Ben and Vorm and I am not sure if we will get al the details including pay backs in the future.

I personally am pleased with the Ben/Siggy "swap" if it can be looked at that way.

Maybe if we had waited on he would have? After all he needs a left-back, had bid £16m on a left-back already and had started bidding for Ben.
What happened to the Home Grown premium we should be able to expect.
You just tell the big clubs a price and to **** off until they can match it.
If Monk had confidence that he could bring an alternative to Siggy in who could be equally effective we could have done this...but Monk had to sign Siggy as he played with him under Brendan...we don't have a manager who has pull in the transfer market and this is the end result.
We've swapped an asset worth £15m for one worth £8m.
Well done Monk.

Is that Laudrup's attempts to sign Siggy or are you referring to Dragons WUM attempt? ;)

Back to the debate though, why did Laudrup need to sign Gylfi at the time when he knew he was bringing Michu to the club?

Terror, of course Monk has pull to sign players otherwise we wouldn't have signed Fabianski, Emnes, Gomis, Gylfi and very soon, Montero. Think that 'myth' has been well and truly destroyed by now.
