When you drive up the A34, shortly after crossing the M4 at Newbury there are two big cooling towers in the distance to your right, that is the "industrialised north".
I was at the Science Museum last weekend and I'm pretty sure the industrial revolution kicked off in Cornwall/Devon. So shhhhh.
Did you know that HMS Belfast big guns are trained on Scratchwood Services, presumably the north starts from there.
that's pretty much how I think of the country FLT. I know where places are, I just simplify the labels.
you don't ever change, it is in your blood and heart. Except for Lambo is a Scouser, because he is an adopted scouser
Basic rule: If they've got an accent, they're either North, East or West. If they speak 'normally' - they're from the South.
I've lived in a few parts of the World, but I've only just realised that my hometown Southampton is the second most northerly place I've lived in. And only just: 1st Egerton Forstal, Kent: Lat 51°11'8.66''N, 0°42'23.73''E 2nd Southampton, Hants: Lat 50°56'18.86''N, 1°25'29.42''W Even where I lived in New Zealand was way closer to the Equator, so that doesn't qualify. I'm a real southern laddie.
Not sure where else to put this so here will do. A friend of mine wants to put a bet on with me that Saints will get relegated, and he wants me to give him odds. The best current odds at the bookies is 7/1, what do you think I should offer him (seriously, not like 1000/1 LOLZ)
Depends what he's betting. If it's a few pounds, give him 8/1 or something. If it's somewhat hefty, I'd go with the lower end of the bookies' range, which is currently 5/1.
I spent much of my youth just north of Stockholm in a village called Sollentuna. Proper northerner me......!
