With the new season weeks away, and a sense of cautious optimism in the air, we look to City's main players (JET and Baldock) and say - now is the time to achieve - you won't get a better chance in a City shirt Sam, looking super sharp against the SA Gunners, another season like last time and you could well write yourself into Bristol folklore. For JET consistency is the key, and not letting the head drop. I don't have any worries about these two. I think we have been incredibly fortunate to have them with us, and I believe they will perform as and when required. And they will be remembered among the most important players at Ashton Gate
Over the years we have had many players who frustrate us because they appear to not be performing at their peak and JET is one of the many. Don't you feel like having a private moment with him to tell him to get his arse in gear and perform up to his unquestionable ability? Come on JET you know you want it!
JET has no excuses this time, A full pre-season getting fit with SC. I am expecting good things from him.! Sam I am confident will deliver again, I sincerely hope we can keep hold of him..
We will go up if we keep these two,and the new signings perform and shine. If sam goes then it is a spanner in the works. But i believe his good friend wilbraham will keep sam here to reform their strike partnership.
Sam Baldock holds the key to this season, I'm sure if he goes we will still score but his determination I doubt we will replace. He's also looking a good captain, never been a fan of forward captains but I've been impressed with Baldock especially when he gave the team a bollocking earlier this season telling the defence to get ****ing forward a bit.
A 3 - 5 - 2 seems a logical formation we have a couple midfielders who can play up or back. .probably need 4 of them as they could get tired The player who always for some reason sticks out in my mind that was a full back but was always running the length of the pitch "with the ball" and getting in a pass was Trevor Jacobs VERY UNSETTLING FOR THE OPPOSITION....! MAYBE OUR current wingbacks/forwards can do the same?
3-5-2 is the way to go, Baldock can score 30+ this season, I don't think he will but if he playes like he did under cotterill last season from August to May then he is very likely to get into the 30s! From what I've seen of the team so far I reckon our strongest starting 11 is Fielding Ayling Osborne Williams Little Smith Elliott Freeman Cunningham JET Baldock Still waiting to see who this keeper we'll be signing is, Moore is looking likely now so if he does sign he'll get the number 1, and our bench looks pretty decent now! Moore/Fielding Flint El-Abd Wagstaff Reid Pack Wynter Bryan Burns Wilbraham
Its the strongest looking squad I have seen at AG since Hartley, Maynard, Haynes, etc were pushing for the Championship play-offs. I will be most surprised if we don't figure near the top this season. But I will be even more surprised if an alien lands in front of me in the High Street and invites me to spend the weekend on a beach in Honalulu
'Sam Baldock holds the key to this season' IMO the way we defend holds the key. That's not just about the back 4 it's how we defend as a side.
Agree with most points on this one but have we done enough to the midfield in order to protect the back line and become the dynamo that operates the rest of the squad?
It seems that for most of us on here our expectation levels have grown considerably following a strong end to last season and the players that SC has brought in since. Let's hope that the players have the right attitude in a couple of weeks time at Bramall Lane and for the other 45 games. We know we're capable of scoring goals, but we need to be mean at the back
We have a good pool of central midfield with Korey Smith, Elliott, Reid, Pack, possibly Freeman playing there instead of wide, JET. Have I missed anyone? Smith will be the destroyer in front of the back three or four. Freeman will be the tin opener!
A note of caution. The last time we had decent/expensive strikers Akinbiyi, Thorpe etc we didn't replace Shaun Taylor and we paid the price. Looks very similar again, great options going forward but defensively useless. Not for a minute am I suggesting we'll go down but the way we defend as a side will mean another year in L1.
I was thinking only of central midfield so did not consider Wagstaff, Bryan, Cunningham or Little as, assuming we set up 3-5-2, will be competing for the WB positions. And that quality allows Freeman to be used as a more destructive attacker from central midfield, than having to play as left back/left wing. Freeman and JET have the ability to open up defences for Sam and others to score a bundle of goals. Leave the defending to others. PS. I haven't seen Wynter play yet so cannot comment on his value as a central midfielder.
