I saw a Chihuahua-Lab mix at Petsmart once that an animal rescue group had brought in. Made me wonder if the Chihuahua or the Lab was the father there. Either a very stretched Chihuahua girl... or a very disappointed Lab girl! Seemed a sweet dog though- more of the lab's disposition than a Chihuahuas. Looked like a lab- but had this tiny Chihuahua's head on its body... looked quite comical... don't normally see crosses where it looks like one body part of one dog stuck on another.
Only dogs I like are 1. Husky/Samoyed/Alaskan malamute/American Eskimo Dog - Sled dog types 2. Labs/Retrievers 3. Japanese Spitz 4. Finnish Spitz 5. Akita Inu & Shiba Inu 6. Shipperke 7. Norwegian Elkhound 8. Sausage Dogs What are your favourite dog breeds???
I love Huskies too! I like most dogs (except Chihuahua). Most spaniels have fantastic crazy personalities. Labs/Retrievers are sweet. Huskies are beautiful and calm dogs usually! Rottweilers are one of my favourites too. Border Collies are awesome dogs too- but would never own one. If I got another dog though- after the disaster with the psycho dog that used to bite everyone I'd probably get a beagle. Probably the most family-friendly dog other than a lab... and less chewy of the furniture! From an aesthetic stand point- never really cared for Greyhounds... but ones that aren't traumatized by racing make what sound like ideal pets... Don't need a lot of exercise like many breeds, but are quite capable of it. Aren't very vocal. Very sweet affectionate dogs. Don't shed much- and are hypoallergenic. Don't eat a lot. I'm not particulary snobby though... a mutt is good for me!
erm... i dunno this is deeper thinking that i want to go on it. BUT i have very strong views on dog control and ownership and feel there is no place for owning fighting dogs and walking round housing estates with them period. Aside from that my true favorite is the collie.
Which dog on my list are you considering a fighting dog? The Rottweiler? I've never known an aggressive Rottweiler. Rotties usually have a very gentle disposition.
well... a rottweiler improperly looked after is a danger mastiffs, staff's, akitas any dog with a locking jaw.... i generally think that a) big dogs deserve big areas to run about in. b) owners who get these dogs are either really responsible but on the other hand and young lads posing who have no clue and create real dangerous situations as a result.
That is true about almost any dog. Rotties are powerful dogs so could cause more problems. However they're herding dogs not baiting or fighting dogs so are instinctively more" protective" rather than aggressive. One of the most gentle disposition dogs normally though: they live to please their owners... usually obedient. They're one if the breeds used for guide dogs. Dogs are like people though... occasionally there is a bad Apple. Tv has made the Rotties look bad. Now you're talking more about baiting or fighting dogs. I especially agree after having had first hand experience with a staffy mix (that I was told was a hound/lab mix as a puppy. DNA test told me the truth). No matter how much training we applied and got experts involved- that dog wouldn't stop the aggressive behaviour. I think most Staffies are not that way... but a large enough percent are that they shouldn't be bred or kept as house pets. I agree. Pit bulls are one of the most common dogs around where I am with a certain demographic that want to look tough and gangsta like. Usually younger men. And... despite loving Rotties most... I'd probably get a beagle next because it suits my family/property better. Collies are great dogs too- but I wouldn't get one because I doubt my family would provide the type of mental stimulation they need! I wouldn't get a greyhound or Spaniel because I have cats and both have been known to snap and attack cats! Even one they had been friends with!
The top 2 you mentioned are my favourite. If I were to choose a specific type I'd go for.. 1. Eskimo dog - Very calm and easy to live with. Other breeds can get quite bossy and naughty if bored/not treated properly. 2. Retriever - Had them in the family. Very sweet dogs. Had a Lab with the ex, wonderful creature. Miss her a lot. Don't think I could live with a Chihuahua, good job I'm just looking for a buck and nothing serious with this chick.
I feel sorry for Huskies around where I live. When the high temperature is north of 30C for long stretches of the year- it seems inhumane to keep Huskies around here. Plenty of people do though. They're not a hot-weather dog- too much fur. Some people do shave them in the summer which is more responsible.

yeah beagles are great looking. i think its the power of a strong dog like rottweiler that is the issue. around here bull dogs are quite popular and frankly a dog with papers is a fantastic looking animal i must admit but round estates with kids? we always had collies which is of course my link. we ended up given a husky and it was a disaster. she was a pup and so energetic i had to give her to a guy who came form the countryside to take her. lots of room to run about and that made me "real popular" i can tell you but the dog comes before the kids amusement, especially when they wouldn't clean the mess or walk the thing. spaniels and any terriers are most viscious postie biters IMO. they are funny that way... Until my kids are at lest 4, no dog... that'll mean i'll be real popular as in why didn't i get one attitude but its just common sense cats are all ****s
