He doesn't have to pay, he just has to live in Caterham, which is worth than death.

I think its safe to say that every problem F1 has ends up being levelled at just two drivers. I'm sure there's not just deeper problems :bandit:

Vettel blamed for poor Hockenheim turnout

Sebastian Vettel has been blamed for the poor turnout at his home grand prix following negative comments made earlier in the season about F1's new V6 turbo era.

After three consecutive rounds in front of capacity crowds in Canada, Austria and Great Britain, just 52,000 people turned up to watch the German Grand Prix on Sunday - down 30% from the attendance in 2012. Circuit adviser Katja Heim thinks Vettel, who memorably labelled the sound of the new engines "****" in March, should bear some of the blame for the poor turnout due to the influence he has over German fans.

"It certainly didn't really help that Sebastian in his frustration about the new Formula One and his car gave loads of interviews about how bad Formula One is now and that it's not worth going there," Heim told Reuters. "As a four-time world champion from Germany, people believe him more than they would the sales people. So if he says there's nothing any more for the fans, it's not Formula One like it used to be, that was 100% quite damaging."

Heim also confessed Germany's recent FIFA World Cup success played a part, poking fun at England's dismal performance several weeks before the well-attended British Grand Prix.

"For Formula One, it would maybe have been better if Germany had done an England and gone out in the first round. I really believe that."

What utter crap.... It's clearly Whitmarsh's fault.

Either that or the ridiculously expensive tickets.

yes, because someone saying how bad it is easily has more impact than people experiencing for themselves how bad it actually is <doh> Maybe if some changes were made with the actual racing mind (rather than saving polar bears, making F1 "safer", and helping manufacturers sell production cars and advertise their engine building skills) it might spark a bit more interest. This season is easily the worst i can remember, and it was obvious from the first race.

It is amusing that you post a comment on a forum of a sport that you watch in order to declare that you cannot watch something that you have watched.

“This season is easily the worst I can remember, and it was obvious from the first race.”

I take it you were on the ISS during 2013 and had better things on your mind than watch Vettel, in a car that was 5 seconds a lap faster than anything else, manage to drive it 3 seconds than everything else.

Is F1 to you all about the driver that is leading?

Do you not understand that there are battles going on throughout the grid?

It was a good race not for first past the post but for the battles for the lower positions. I don't really remember seeing Rosberg much at all during the race. The other battles were great. Lewis cutting through the field, more by luck than judgement, avoiding completely destroying his car, Alonso and Riccardo battling like true racers right on the edge to name just 2 of the battles.
I did enjoy the race. Can't wait till next one.

:emoticon-0108-speec.............<laugh> You certainly have to give Mercedes credit for signing Hamilton to be the poster boy of their period of dominance, obviously knowing what follows him along.

Made me laugh when i saw a few recent polls regarding who peoples favourite teams are, which strangely Mercedes now completely dominate. Forget the car, that's easily the smartest thing they've done the last couple years, and it's certainly paying off this season, i dread to think what **** storm teams like Red Bull or Ferrari would have brewed up if they were in such a position this year.

Also there's a hell of a lot more wrong with this season that just the "battle" for 1st and 2nd, unless you're just an avid fan of one of those drivers involved i guess, in which case i imagine everything negative immediately becomes irrelevant.

I dont think Ferrari and/or Red Bull and their accompanying fans are patrularly happy with the current situation, hence both of them trying to cause a **** storm to get the rules changed... which is slightly odd given they were very content in their own era of domination.

We want a competitive season after being put to sleep by the above 2 teams for so many years, so don't start making out that Mercedes and Hamilton fans have ruined F1. It's the same ****, different year, different team, different drivers.

Didnt Alonso touched somebody too? His own teammate? Maybe I was wrong... So how come he came through the field like a true racer but Hamilton was cutting through the field more by luck than by judgement? hmmmmm you guys here are really funny? Do you really read back your posts? hahahahaha. funny!

You mean when Vettel forced Raikkonen into Alonso? Yeah, Alonso totally caused that incident there!

"It's the same" seems to be the go to cop out this year, as it conveniently disregards practically everything other than who wins and how easily.....oh and i guess that as well. If anything it just highlights how bad this season is, if that's the best people can so regularly come up with. I look forward to seeing how Hamilton winning the championship will be hailed as anything but "the same" as Vettel doing so the last 4 years.

I don't recall stating it's any better, any worse or particularly alright. You're the vocal one about it and seems to be particularly annoyed that Hamilton is winning races. Why do you not mention Rosberg whom looks the most likely to take the title at present?

Im sorry Hamilton is in with a shout, it clearly upsets you, but I can do nothing to change that, just like I havent been able to change any of the past results.

My advice is to just accept that a Merc will win, and hope for better next season. That's all you can do as a fan, because Bernie ain't going to listen unless you give him a bung, and the FIA do as they please...

i imagine he'll be listening when he sees the tickets sales and viewer numbers for this season. Hence why they're already panicking with the mid-season rule changes, and lining up more for next season.

Also i like how you try to again focus purely on Hamilton as if there's nothing else wrong with this season :cheesy:

And there's no way Mercedes will let Rosberg win, Hamilton would probably leave, and take the vast majority of Mercedes newly founded support with him, which would be rather hilarious to watch i must say, as they would immediately replace Red Bull as the most hated team no doubt.

You keep bringing up Hamilton, like he's the only one winning. I'll be honest, I couldn't care less one way or the other if he wins the title or not. It won't change my life one way or another.

The reason the sport is failing isn't just down to half a season, F1 has been getting progressively worse for years in many ways.

Dull tracks, soaring ticket prices, restrictive rules, overtaking gimmicks, paid viewing, drivers 'managing' races, drivers that lack personality... the list goes on. It's being run in to the ground.

As for Merc engineering a title for Hamilton. If you believe that, then I can't convince you otherwise... That's what you think, be it right or wrong.
