This is why I used Eric Dier as one of my examples. Maybe people don't know who he is?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Dier
Born in England to two English parents, spent his first ten years in England, has played for Everton's youth team and has played at U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels for England.
His granddad and granddad's brother both played for Charlton, his dad played professional tennis and one of his middle names is Jeremy.
Not homegrown for the Premier League, but he is for the Premeira Liga in Portugal.

Middle name Jeremy. That should've sealed the matter!

Irrelevant. Owen Hargreaves played 42 games for England (seems a lot), but isn't homegrown.
Gylfi Sigurdsson and Alex Song have both played numerous games for non-British national sides, but they are homegrown.
    Nationality doesn't come into it.

Steve Bruce has suggested that there's some frustrating hold-up with Hull trying to sign Dawson from us.
He was very vague, so we can only hazard a guess at the problem. Wages, the player weighing up other options or us putting it on hold til we sign a replacement, possibly?

Yeah that's Ben. Make sure you wreck his full back career and turn him into a winger. Wales will be much appreciated ;)

Probably wants to finish the preseason tour with Spurs then get back and decide. Dawson's a determined guy and I'm sure he still holds a hope of convincing Pochettino of his worth.

Hi missus has probably told him that she'll leave him if he tries to force her to live in Hull. It ain't the most picturesque place on the planet!....

The reality is that Michael Dawson is perfectly happy where he is. He loves the club, loves playing for us and although he is from South Yorkshire and has a lot of affection for Hull City as he knows the club as his brother played there, he does have a lot more affection for Spurs.

Caulker's completed his move to QPR. Good move for them and he could learn a few things from Ferdinand, if he can stay fit.

I know that I'm in the minority!!

But I hope Dawson stays with us.
He won't be 1st choice but with 2 of the other 3 centre backs being somewhat injury prone, daws will get plenty of time on the pitch.

I'm with you. So refreshing to have a player that cares about the club these days.

    Cheers SD,
Very true, far to many mercenaries wear our shirt and very few wear it with pride.

There's little place on football for sentiment if you want success.

Dawson is past his best and let's be honest his best wasn't that great.

If we start the season with him as first choice then I think 7th will be the best we can hope for. I have faith that Poch will sell Dawson though.

He was our player of the season in 09-10, arguably our best season.

I don't mind people feeling he doesn't suit the system or pointing out that he made a lot of mistakes in the second half of last season, but give him his due, he was a good player for us under Redknapp and Jol.

I agree with YV. Dawson's a good defender and seems like a nice, loyal bloke, but he doesn't suit the high pressing game.
Other defenders were far more of a liability than him last season, too.
I think he'll always be welcome at the Lane.

Sadly, I have to agree. A very good servant of the club, with a great heart. But unfortunately, never a great player, and now past his best.

    Also agree.

He did have that one excellent season, but it was just one of those odd blips that you sometimes get in life.
