Edit, yes he does according to the Premier League site, that would help. Our current first tem squad has Mason and I am not sure he will stay
I just done a bit of browsing for lists of home grown players, I found a list from last years submitted squads - Schneiderlin has a yes by his name so I reckon he's all good. Here's the link if you wanna check just in case I'm being stupid and missing something - which is fully plausible : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo.../Premier-League-squads-25-man-lists-team.html
From UEFA's website: UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the age of 15 and 21. Lameiras signed on July 1st 2011, so is HG Vejlkovic signed on August 1st 2011, so will be HG in a couple of weeks Bentaleb signed in January 2012, so will be HG at the end of the season (but not January, which makes no sense) Fryers qualifies as HG through his time at Man Utd Ceballos would've qualified as HG is he remained at the club last season...but last season's loan to FC Arouca means he never will. Nice one, Sherwood!
No, rather bizarrely. Fryers does qualify, but I don't think that someone like Eric Dier does, despite having two English parents and coming from a line of British sportsmen. Holtby isn't a homegrown player, even though his dad is English (well, Scouse, anyway) and was serving in the British Army when his son was conceived and born. The utterly Icelandic Gylfi Sigurdsson gets in though, as he joined Reading when he was about 15.
Only Spurs would delay announcing the Ben Davies deal, yet show him twice on the recent training video they've just posted. Oh well, welcome Ben
There's some suggestion that these pictures are of the same player: please log in to view this image please log in to view this image The first is from a Spurs training video in Toronto today...
He must do. Surely being born in Manchester being an England U15/16/17 player and only spending a year abroad must qualify. Not like Holtby who spent all his life in Germany. Edit: ok, should read beyond the first 3 words. Arsenal's 5 HG players last year included Chesney and Bendtner
Understandable that we haven't announced it. I heard that this morning our security stopped Abramovich who was sneaking over the fence with a chloroform rag and a sack to steal away another of our new signings.
??????????????????? on what basis could someone who is English and has spent his whole life in England except for a few months last year, not be a home grown player ?
you did what I did and stopped at 3 words. Fryers does qualify, but PNP is just saying being English doesn't necessarily qualify, if you have been abroad for a number of years like Holtby, Hargreaves etc.
The irony is that, if he spent his U21 years at (for the sake of argument) Celtic, he wouldn't qualify as a HG player.
But in football once you play for the senior national side that is your balls nailed to that flagpole for life. So seeing as he has 3 full german caps that makes him german and not a brit who has been abroad for a few years.
