Swanselona - just noticed that 4 of the five faces on the pic in your signature are (or are about to be) no longer with us. Hope the 5th doesn't go else you will have to take full responsibility :)

Let me ask you this, how much do you reckon we could sell Michu for, had he not gone on loan, now bare in mind you are trying to justify a £10m price tag on Gylfi, a player who scored 13 goals in 85 appearances.

Michu on the other hand, in that same time frame, played 67 games, and scored 28 goals, at a club with lesser players (in comparison to what Spurs had)

Good deal imo , proven scorer who may or may not improve as opposed to a player again who may or may not improve but can cost a side goals .Good luck Ben , an opportunity he or the Club could not afford to take.

I wanted to sell Davies since I heard 6 million £ being thrown around a long time ago . I want to bite the Spurs hand off with a 10 million £ bid for Davies because I believe he is as good as he gets which is just ok . To take that well earned money and toss it at Siggy is a mistake imo , but Ill live with it if I must. I believe neither player is worth it and will not have great seasons at theyre new clubs . I believe (if he is allowed to play) Taylor will play better with us than Davies will play for Spurs .. we will see ... cheers .. off to earn

Looking at his assists in that video, Bony is going to flipping love him. Pin-point crosses on tap.

On last years performances and injuries Michu would have been sold for less than Gylfi IMO as he had a nightmare season. The Michu of the first season at least £20 million.

Exactly. We are desperate for someone who can cross and take set pieces.

What about Michu of both seasons? Would you value him at around £8m? Or less?

Am sure I heard somewhere (could be mistaken) that Napoli may be able to buy him for £8m at the end of the season. Which would be very bad for us if Michu was to have a stormer this season with them.

Gylfi was playing from the bench in a midfield with other goalscorers (Dembele, Dempsey, Eriksen), and expensive strikers who he is asked to provide for (Soldado, Adebayor, Defoe).

Michu had the majority of his appearances over 90 minutes and was playing as a striker for over half of those minutes, and at times our tactics were basically 'give the ball to Michu'.

Not a fair comparison. But when you consider that Gylfi played much more from the bench, their minutes on the pitch were probably very similar.

I don't see how you can value Michu over two seasons as we can only value him on the season just gone. At present if we'd have got £8-£10 million for him based on last season it would have been a good deal, especially when you factor that he cannot play with Bony.

So to summarize the exchanges .... if I can correctly. Michu had a great season for us, then suffered for a variety of reasons. Sig had a great half a season for us then "suffered" / did not make his mark at Spurs for two seasons.

The situations at our club that gave rise to both players' top outputs has long gone. Both Michu and Sig are relative unknowns in terms of what we might expect to see this season from them - for both it's a question of will the real player step forward. It's a bit of a crap shoot for both IMO.

If you had to bet, who would you bet on.

All new players who come to the Club especially at our level will always have to be considered a risk on whether they're good enough .We've had our share of duffers and some truly great players ,Michu for me is in that category ,with Gylfi we know what he is capable of and as he maybe our player soon than we have to be hopeful that he's a success ,Michu's gone but we move on as he has .

"did not make his mark at Spurs for two seasons"

Don't think this is fair although I agree with your post on the whole. It's kind of like saying that Pablo didn't make his mark on the Swans because he wasn't consistently in the first team here.

Of the two, given both of their current situations, I'd bet on Gylfi. Quality attacking midfielder and more of a natural midfielder for the classic Swans 4-5-1/4-3-3. I always felt that we lost midfield control when Michu played as an attacking midfielder. Much preferred to see him upfront. What's more, we know that Gylfi is fit and healthy and isn't injury-prone. Michu...who knows whether his injury will flare up again at the start of the season?

What does Gylfi add that Michu doesn't? Finishing from range, quality dead-ball delivery and a more comfortable midfield playing style. Michu was more of a finisher/tackler - best known for poking past a keeper when one-on-one, especially good in the air and winning the ball back/pouncing on loose play in the opposition half. Gylfi is more well-known for smashing and curling in shots from outside the box, and producing late surging runs into the box. He also drifts wide to deliver crosses. More importantly for me, Gylfi will be happier to sit slightly further back than Michu. Rather than operate on the edge of the box when we're attacking, he will operate 30 yards from goal and become the playmaker.

Given that we have Bony and Gomis for hanging around the box - I actually think that Gylfi will suit our attacking midfielder role much more comfortably than Michu would have this term. That's my speculative opinion though.

Great signing even at £10 million. Squad is shaping up nicely.

Mytwopeneth is I am quite happy with the Siggy signature, But he is at least 4m overpriced. Spurs fans will be chuffed at the deal. It seems that HJ was no match for Levy as I always expected. Siggy isnt a bad player but he will be lucky to get 6 goals next season. A good squad player, but no better than what we have and certainly no better than what we did have.

I'm very pleased we have Siggy back, he can now go on and reach his true potential, I see this deal as good business, and a quality signing, better than what we had last season in that position, well done Huw Jenkins, not sure though how Vorm figures in all this?.....................<ok>
