SSN breaking that Gylfi is currently having a medical according to their sources. They are also saying that Vorm has agreed personal terms with Spurs.

Hope it was a medical at Palace. We payed 12 million for Bony and we look to pay 10 million for Siggy...... its obscene frankly , hope he fails the medical with us but if he passes ....WELCOME ! .im not totally against Siggy , just the price ...

Does anyone know what we actually paid?

    Getting conflicting reports of

direct swap deal between Ben and Siggy, imo, no value for us in that deal

Another swap deal, Ben plus Vorm for siggy plus £10m, doubt the validity of this one but there is value in this deal for us

Then there's as above, but only £5m cash, offers minimal value to us, imo.

Then there's cash transfer reports of £10m or £8m for Ben; £5m or £2.5m for Vorm, £10M or £8m for siggy

Can anyone shine a light on this for me?

RJ, I think we all know £12m for Bony was a snip, we certainly got value in that deal. Agree though, £10m for siggy is steep

We were ready to pay over £8 million for Siggy when we originally wanted him. Alright, he's not been first choice at Spurs but we could've told him that before he went there. He should've followed Rodgers to Liverpool. Nobody was ousting Dempsey from that position when he was at Tottenham, and unfortunately for Gylfi, Eriksen came in and did an unbelievable job.

It doesn't make Siggy a poor player, it just means that he didn't get his break at Spurs. Something we all predicted when he went there. He scored goals for Spurs when needed. 50 appearances in his first season. 35 appearances in his second. 13 goals in total. 8 Premier League goals. He has not been poor there.

£10m for Siggy... It's hard to look at it that way for me. We're swapping a player in a position that we have cover for, for a good player in a position that we need. Forget values. For me, it's just a good, straight-up swap deal and I'm happy with it.

Were all basing Siggy off of 6 months with us, probably his 6 best months of football Different team now , not optimistic Siggy can repeat his goal prowness within our different team and rookie manager , but at a valuation of 10 million !. I dont like the deal but hey -ho , hope it all works out.

Are you kidding me? I think you're basing your opinion of Siggy off 6 months. I am not.

I lived in Basingstoke for 2 years and all my friends who were Reading fans there were raving about him when we got him on loan. He scored 19 goals in 42 appearances for them.

He moved to Hoffenheim - scored 9 goals in 36 appearances for them in the Bundesliga.

He came to us on loan and scored 7 goals in 18 appearances.

I followed him throughout his entire time at Spurs (8 goals in 58 appearances). When he did get a short run in the team towards the end of his first season there, he was almost indispensable - scoring and creating. But that's what happens when you're second place for a position - when the injured player returns, quite often you go back to bench-warming.

He's a seasoned international for Iceland and they came second in their latest World Cup qualification group behind Switzerland. He's scored 5 goals in 23 appearances for his country.

Swansea City did not create Gylfi Sigurdsson. He was already a great goal-scoring midfielder before he ever pulled on a Swansea shirt. Playing second fiddle at Spurs doesn't mean anything to me - put him back into the first team here and he'll get back to doing what he did everywhere else he's played, scoring goals and creating chances. He has played and been successful everywhere he has played and in many different systems too.

Fair enough that you don't like the deal though. I can't and won't try to change your mind on that. But I was just proving to you that my opinion is not solely based on Gylfi's time with us at Swansea.

Fully agree. Gylfi was the obvious choice for me if Michu left and I think this will be a great signing.

Well, you could flip it around and say we had gylfi for free. We deal ed with ben davies who cost us nothing and we got gylfi in return.

Itpays to be positive sometimes !

The other thing to note is that with the bump in prem money it has inflated player value Even more, you could compared him to mcormack who went for an alleged 11m quid !

Overall i Think the deal suits everyone so im happy with it <ok>

Well it appears we will find out soon enough if it will be 10 million well spent .I guess you have to pay a bit higher for players when a team isnt that attractive for players .

I quite like Siggy and I think we will do a good job for us. He had to be patient at Spurs and as stated above when he did get a run I thought he definitely added something to them.

Re Ben I have some Spurs chums who whilst appreciative about Ben's attacking talent are a bit apprehensive about Ben's defending ability having had a run of full backs who are good going forward but crap at defending.

Roof stop banging on about us not being able to attract players, we've already signed 4 <laugh>

As NJ said, prices are inflated.

But £10m for siggy is overpriced when you consider Ben is only valued at £10m ;)

Ben is an up and coming star to be, who is 21 years old, a left back, which are sought after like gold right now.

Siggy is 3 years older, and without being disrespectful, will get only a bit better with time. And plays as an AM, which are a plenty.

Although I don't share his pessimism at times, I am with Roofjack on this, a straight swap would be an appalling piece of business.

For me, Ben = £10m, Vorm £4-5m, siggy £7-8m at best.

Justifying a bad deal through a stumbled on good deal norway , makes little to no sense.

Ben might only get a little bit better too. At the end of the day we needed Gylfi to replace Michu. A lot of posters, myself included what have blasted the board if we didn't buy him because we wouldn't have spent a couple of million extra to get Gylfi.
Monk has identified an area of weakness and the board have delivered. How many times have the board been blasted for not parting with the cash?
Also we are getting a player who is not near his peak yet and therefore we will, hopefully, get the best years out of him.
