Having had Fabio all of last season, surely Gus and Ellis would surely have discussed with Borini if he would be willing to join if we struck a deal with Liverpool?

Now people can change their minds but what if Fabio told them no at the time?

Knowing this we stick a big bid to make the club look ambitious, sends out all the right messages, trying hard in the market etc.

Now I am fond of alternate theories.

Just thought I'd throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

It looks to me like all the messages are coming from his agent, so my answer is 'I very much doubt there is any truth in your theory'.

But telling everyone that we now have £14 million on the hip is rather showing our hand a bit! I suspect this is why Alonso is suddenly not available, Fiorentina could be trying to squeeze a few million more out of us! Your theory, though a one that certainly is worth thinking about, leaves us open to getting shafted!

That's if we do actually sign anyone. Maybe Ellis thinks we can take the title with what we have.....?

Sorry I've lost the plot as this transfer window. As we go on it looks like plan A is already in the bin.

Who would be a Sunderland manager?

A good call by the Sunderland board there Giacc' if only in real life they had been that ruthless with Steve Bruce we may not be in this mess.

You have to question wether moving Niall Quinn on was a good move as we seem to have gone backwards since his departure.

We are well short of players though, we can win all those friendlies and think; great we will do well with this team, but I thought that last season and look what nearly happened. If Borini stops at Liverpool and I reckon he will we need Lakaku or Drogba in. Drogba coming on with 20 mins left in most games would be fantastic.

I disagree. It's Quinn who got us in this mess imo. Everything that's gone wrong since is as a result of trying to fix his mistakes.
