Jack Colback insists Newcastle United's summer transfer business has highlighted why he was right to make the move to St James' Park this summer. The former Sunderland midfielder opted to cross the Tyne-Wear divide when signing for Newcastle on a Bosman free transfer. Colback is one of six new faces to have arrived at Newcastle and he is delighted with the players to have been brought in by Alan Pardew. âBefore I joined he was telling me about the type of players he wanted and he has practised what he preached," the 24-year-old told The Sun. âHe has brought in some quality players to add to the quality that was already in the squad. De Jong in particular has looked really high quality in training. His finishing has been brilliant and he looks a class act. âIâm sure the Newcastle fans canât wait to see him and the rest of the new signings come the new season.â And Colback insists that playing for Newcastle means he is on a higher level than that of Sunderland. âItâs important in every playerâs career to play at as high a level as they can â and at Newcastle Iâve got a chance to be part of a team really looking to go places," he said. âIf you ask the manager himself, heâll tell you he is looking to really go for it this season and trying to push Newcastle to where we should be, which is high up the table."
Fire knackers! While we are on the subject of ex- players (recent) Gardner sent off in Wba debut : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Dorrans-scores-spot-hand-Baggies-victory.html
They haven't gone places for 60 years Next year will be the 60th anniversary of the last time Newcastle won a current major trophy. They've replaced Cabaye, Remy etc, with poorer players, but Colback thinks Newcastle will be 'pushed to where they should be'. Where is that exactly FFS, are the new signings, at Newcastle, all given a script to read out?
But he's right! Despite having their problems Newcastle always give the impression that they are capable of having a good season, particularly when they sign players who have the potential to shoot them up the table. Meanwhile we have getting 3 average players on a free, Williams would rather play for Swansea and we're chasing a player, whilst paying over the odds, who seemingly doesn't want to come! I could wager that if the town had come in for Williams or Borini they would have shown a little more interest. Or if we had gone for any of Newcastles recent signings they would not have even considered us! Until we pull our fingers out, finish somewhere near the top half and show a bit of stability we will always struggle to attract the sort of players that we hope will vastly improve us!
I didn't even realise he'd left Sunderland, not a great start. You do a lot of swapsies you and the Baggies, wondered a few weeks ago if Poyet would go for Dorrans but he signed a new conny with WBA last week. Colback may have spoken too soon here though, would understand if deadline day had just been and gone but with over a month left a lot can happen.
Correct Mr Ear, Sunderland aren't an attractive proposition at the moment. Newcastle are only slightly better but players use the club as a safe staging post to a better club. I doubt any of them really expect Newcastle to win anything.
Potential!! They got 16 points from the last 19 games...even we got 24! They still have a woeful back four and a keep on the slide. Granted De Jong looks good (but in the dutch league) but they're signings are hardly going to set the world alight. Remy, Ben arfa and Cabaya scored more then 50% of Newcastle goals last season and all will be missing this season. If any Newcastle fans come on here and say that they are happy with the team and should be pushing for Europe then they are sadly delusional. I'd rather be in our boat than theirs, the club is more stable and the fans trust and believe in the Management. We do need to strengthen but i'm sure this will be addresses by the start of next season. If we can muster a team better then the team that ended the season with excellent results against the likes of Man City, United, Chelsea et all, then we will be ok.
To be fair he doesn't mention Sunderland anywhere. The dig is from the paper not the player. If you actually read his last quote without reading the Sunderland sentence. It actually reads like Newcastle has underachieved in his eyes but he feels these transfers will push them up the table. Again he's done nowt wrong, we should get of his back because we'll start looking pathetic if we carry on.
As things stand Newcastle will probably finish above us! If you'd asked me a month ago I wouldn't have been so sure! Now if we get at least 3 good signings then I would like to think we could close the gap and finish above them. Whether we get them signings is key!
I've never doubted that they wouldn't finish above us. The fact is that they've made 4 signings but have hardly set the world alight. The rest of the team that was left has been on the slide since the beginning of the year. If we can get Alonso and another 3 (not really arsed about Borini) plus the fact that Fletcher may be back to form we should closer to them next season.
Well we scored for fun 1st friendly and never got out of first gear. It must mean we'll carry that into the season using logic Trust you to be the one to come on here and go one about early friendlies like they actually mean something This gold! Not saying he's a bad player by the way, he's very good. Just pointing out your ridiculous logic because I don't like you and lets be honest, you make it easy.
Completely agree - mind you if the Mags keep on signing players at this rate I can see him just being a bench warmer next season!! Not much of a step up then!
To be fair to him, one of your lads posted a thread about our defeat to Oldham and many posted on here saying "typical Pardew, can't motivate a team" etc. So there's plenty on this board that pay too much attention to friendlies too. Agree with your comments regarding Colback though It's the headline in the paper that's made a non story yet again. Only the subject of friendly matches, I find them pointless for anything other than gaining fitness and moulding a team shape, I'm in the camp that the result really is the most irrelevant aspect of them.
