It has varied mostyn.
I remember a good one in the late 90s when could go in the old BP boardroom, see the club trophy cabinet (!) and go on the training pitch behind the gym, have a chat with John Cooper in his box and lots of other stuff.
Of course, we were flush with money and could afford it back then.

A chance to build bridges, to whet the appetite for the season ahead, flog some shirts- whoops!- we don't have any, create goodwill, and do stuff like Feyenoord did on theirs.
Perhaps there was some H&S issue or hight stewarding cost which made it prohibitive?
Never mind.
Hull is twinned with Freetown, Reykjavik and Rotterdam, so in some ways we can use them as benchmarks.
I would have thought Rotterdam would be one which could show us some good ideas, but alas it seems we are following the Freetown one.
Open days were a key fixture at BP and very important for PR between club and core support, remember chatting with rookie manager Warren Joyce when we were at our lowest ebb. Disgusted we don't do this now we are at our zenith and still have bridges to build with core support. When are we getting a competent new chief exec?
Have spoken to a few people about what happens when it goes tits up at City.
Football is cyclical and for the vast majority of clubs there are good times and lean times, as sure as night follows day. That's one of the many reasons clubs cultivate support....at least when the lean times arrive, the supporters are locked in to the idea of 'my team through thick and thin'.
I don't believe many of the people who attend City these days subscribe to this unwritten contract.
If that was not bad enough, many of the old fans have been alienated and lost faith.

You are not wrong. All clubs need to continually cultivate support. We took thousands of additional supporters to Wembley twice this year, many families who would have enjoyed a sunny afternoon meeting the players down at the club open day, we are desperately lacking in PR when we should be milking our success for all its worth.
Particularly when the rugby teams are getting ragged by every tinpot town down the M62 and back.

We had one not long ago. Ahead of the 10/11 season. Arguably our lowest summer in the last 10 years. We had NP in charge who hated public stuff like that. He'd only just taken over and our only signings were James Harper and Solano. We still had a decent open day.
Now the club is in a much better position to have a great open day in every respect, except that instead of the positive thinking AP we've now got the Allams with their 'don't like it don't come' attitude. Marine Generator companies don't have open days so that's that.

Me and City1904 were talking about this last week - it's such an easy win for the club. Invite pass holders to the training ground and put on an open training session - charge £2 to get in with all proceeds going to the club's official charity for the season. Have a BBQ and bar, a few inflatables and invite all the sponsors to showcase what they do and then once the training sessions done have the players mingle around for a few hours.
It honestly could be organised in a morning, and it's a chance to re-engage with supporters, but the club's too lazy/doesn't care enough to do it.

But one day in the future, maybe sooner than anyone would like to think, the bubble will burst and the club may need all the goodwill it can muster from the people of Hull & ER.
If and when that day dawns, you would hope the benevolence and the respect will be there for HCFC.
Be nice to people on your way up as you meet them again on the way down, is the old adage.
