Bap so where does the 19m release clause come into this then. Do we not have to sell him for that price. Just curious like.
I don't know the specifics but this isn't far off.... ....a release clause is nulled if one or more but not all parties involved in its negotiation (calculation or creation); in this case us or Bony's agent, revealed said clause to a speculative (would be interested) 3rd party, in order to make a pecuniary gain. If Bony's agent revealed it to Liverpool or made it public knowledge without the knowledge and consent of ALL contracted parties, (and the act was discovered) then the negotiated release clause changes in law and becomes an 'asking price' which we as contract stake holders are at Liberty, oops, to turn down. The contract is between us and Bony's agent yet Liverpool and Bony's agent would profit even though we hold the contract. Not exactly ethical and we would be well within our rights to sue the ass off Bony's agent AND Liverpool if the deal went ahead or was forced to happen. Similar to, but not same as, insider trading.
If HJ thought one of taylor or Ben would leave, he perhaps thought he would make more from Ben going. I think I would have tried to persuade Taylor to play on right and kept both if possible. Gylfi not worth 10 million.. no way. Has done very little at Spurs. I doubt fab is better than Vorm. Of course perhaps Vorm, Davies, Bony, Michu, Poz, Canas and Ki all want to leave and don't want to play for Monk. Forget the Laudrup factor he was probably leaving at end of the season, but the new manager's job should have been to persuade some of these guys to stay. Can you imagine someone like Rednapp letting these guys leave, no way, he would have talked Vorm, Davies and Michu into staying. We go after Gylfi, the guy who let us down when Brendan left and even now apparently is not that keen on a return to Swansea.
Unless we are desperate for the money there is no rational reason to sell Bony for any amount of money. He produces goals. The only situation where that is not true is if the player himself has decided he doesn't want to be here, but even then we could pull a 'Pool / Suarez thing. None of this makes any sense. Why would HJ be looking to take cash for Bony, when there is nobody on staff anywhere near the goal production of Bony, Michu has left (the only one anywhere close), and I'm not aware of any other goal-slingers of Bony's ability to finish on the market that would come here .... and that we could afford in terms of wages.
Making money always makes sense for smaller clubs , regardless of what division they are in .We are blessed with deals selling players like Allen , Sinclair and Graham at a profit . Doesnt make sense to stop making money off of others stupidity . Davies , Vorm and even Bony should be sold for silly money while we can .
I'm all for selling the likes of Allen, Sinclair, Vorm and Davies to cash in, but quality of Bony's is very rare outside of the top 4 and must be kept at all costs unless a bid a la £30 million comes in.
Buy Lukaku We would have to trust the club to buy the appropriate player with the money to replicate those goals.
That's the point ... where do you buy them. Bony's and Michu's are, when their firing on all cylinders, special, unstoppable, and illusive. Their exceptionally tough to find at a price and wages that make sense for us. The only way around that is to build a squad where many players are capable of finishing the chances they get and expect that on aggregate the squad generates the goals needed to keep us competitive and in the top third of the table. But several players that can fulfill those demands are individually not cheap to acquire, command wages higher than average and then have to produce the goods. We have struggled to produce a squad that delivers goals in that fashion ... Routledge, Dyer, etc it's never happened. On the other hand ... having all your eggs in a Bony Basket is a risk also ... a bad injury and you're left scrambling. I am struggling with the "philosophy" within the club if the likes of Bony are available for sale. We should fight like crazy to retain that talent and leverage the gold out of it - they should be considered untouchable. We cannot sustain a competitive posture if a season or two after we find a diamond we see it leave and have to find another. If we could produce them out of the youth and U-21 setup then fine, crank up the factory let's go, but I'm not sure we have that stream of talent coming through at the level we need ... yet.
To compound my concerns we are letting a Michu go and trying to bring back a Sig who did produce for us in the role and setup Rogers provided for him, but has been a dud at Spurs. I am not confident that he will suddenly recover his form under Rogers ... we are not the same squad, not the same system, not the same coach etc.
Goals replace themselves , when a door closes , a window opens .When Siggy came here and started scoring , Graham's goals dried up as he changed roles to create spacefor others and worked his socks off . Hear ya on your point about Bony valley and Im with you up till one glaring point ... Bony wants out . He had a good seasons , that could have been great , but Laudrup had plans for him 2nd half so he was brought along slow . Hes paying well , he wants out , teams want him desperatly ... a perfect storm for making money and keeping everyone happy . Id rather Gomis and Emnes playing up front happy , while we have 8 million in our back pocket rather than Bony "having "to stay and play unhappily with a possibilty of his value coming into question
