Whichever LB you do end up with, at least they both have shown promise. Neither are 32 years old with their best years behind them, so you're doing it right in the windows now.

There isn't a lot of great LB's in this league, Azpilicueta probably the pick of the bunch, maybe Clichy, Baines possibly but nothing of the standards Cole and Evra set for the past 10 years, especially Cole.

Good time to buy a cheap, promising LB with there being so few top clubs with top LB's at the minute. A good season for Alonso could see him end up at Arsenal for £12m in a few months just like Debuchy. Makes a change from losing them for nothing.

Don't know fella, I know all overseas loans have to have a right to buy clause in there, but it's being abused by clubs who don't want to agree to sell there and then by putting an unrealistic future fee in there to get the loan through. The recruitment team is brand new so can't be held to account on loan contracts in the past.

Baz? So you'd speed this up by going back to the past and putting a future fee agreement in there? <doh> Comments in hindsight do nothing to make your point fella, and you say monkeys are running the club? Your solution is something from a sci-fi film.

So lets stop being silly Baz, seriously? What would you do speed this up? Overpay and have less budget for other players? Move on to a secondary target? Bare in mind they are secondary targets for a reason, they're not as good a fit, you'd be the first to complain if they weren't good enough.

Or would the best thing to do, for a sake of a couple of million difference in valuation take the time to work it out and try and get the best deal possible on a deal even monkey knows is on. A million saved is wages paid for a year on 20kpw player. Plus we'll have our primary target who incidentally was one of the top 3 left backs in the league last year.

Another season like last season and Alonso would bring vast profit.

Sure would, and it's part of every team's recruitment drive nowadays. Even the top European teams are hoovering up youth talent to make profit on, I think Chelsea are doing their own version of it, they had about 300 players out on loan last season!

Of course you'd like to keep hold of them, but they're usually sold with the bigger picture in mind, unless it's Mike Ashely who seems to just love the smell of cold hard cash!

Every player has it's price, deliver few quality seasons in this league and have youth on their side and you can charge what you want. Shaw is crazy ****, thing with Shaw is his nationality which needs to be taken into account, so if Alonso delivers again we could be talking 12-15m, give it three in a row we've got a 20m player on our hands. The chances of that happening are slim but the lad is quality and for the sake of three million plus a player we don't want who we signed for nowt a season ago (that's what I think they'll agree on) we'd be daft not to see this transfer through. But a million saved is a million saved, we must try and get the best deal. if it draws the transfer out a few weeks as it is doing then so be it. I can live with that.

When Marcos has updated his Twitter profile picture to be in an SAFC shirt, I think we know we will get our man.

If Fiorentina wanted 2.5m & Diakite then I would just do the deal. all this pissing about could of cost us the player & if it did then you would of had a different take on the subject then.

It won't cost the deal, we have something they want. Don't worry it'll happen.
