I've been saying since last summer that at least one of Agger or Skrtel will go this summer, I still think that will be the case.
The Bronby friendly timing indicates it as well. It was part of his contract and after 8 years is done now? Ticking the contractual boxes before he goes perhaps?
I'd be surprised if we got rid of the Vamp. I think Agger's been a bit miffed at lack of game time and I can see him leaving. Shame. I had high hopes for Agger earlier in his career, but injuries have prevented him from realising his full potential.
Lovren for Agger? I really don't want to see Agger go but if he does, I will understand why. My guess is that Lovren will be on less money, a theme over the last 2 years with Rodgers and he won't be as injury plagued (I hope/#nojinx) Wish he'd stayed clear of injuries for a couple of seasons. We could really do with a settled back four. We also need a real leader at the back....is that Lovren? Am not sure. I think it was RHC who mentioned that Rodgers is up for a big name signing if one came available. After this week, we should have Lovren, Remy and Origi in the bag with the latter going straight back on loan.....I reckon we'll still have £55-60m to spend. We must buy a new LB (Moreno? but doubtful now).....and then I'd like them to move heaven and earth to buy Shaqiri. Would be 9 new players to integrate into the squad....throw in a couple of the youngsters and you could argue that there'll be up to 10/11 new faces to the first team squad. That's a lot....the coaches will have their work cut out getting them playing together quickly. But if it clicks......
So rumours say that Origi, Lovren and Remy are all flying to Boston today. But the big questions are... Do they sit together? Who gets the window seat?
I think the only reason I don't want to see Agger go is sentimental. He's not been the same for quite some time and his marking is probably the worst of all our CBs too.
Last season there were comments from Southampton fans on the board that Lovren was their most important player and did not get the praise he deserves. Apparently he is a good organiser at the back, similar to Carra, which is what we need. At times last season our back four looked like 4 blokes visiting a gay dating party for the first time, not talking at all. Not that I speak from experience I must add....before I receive any invites!
my feelings on Agger is that Skrtel goes from decent as RCB to crap as LCB. Toure is also not as good on the left. Lovren I believe prefers the right to, as does Ilori. If Sakho gets injured we could loose balance.
That's a hard one to call. There was a spell when he was in the team in the second half of the season where he started to look the part again...and we stopped conceding. I'll wager that Lovren/Sahko/Skerts et al will still look silly sometimes if we continue to offer them little protection and make silly mistakes in the middle of the park. From the first game to the last, last season, every time that a team came at us, we'd left bundles of space between defence and midfield. I don't care who you buy/sell as CB, that won't go away without a different type of player in front of them (Masch type) or a different formation. I full expect us to concede many again if Rodgers doesn't change that.....which is fine as long as we score in similar fashion without Suarez!
think he means Agger is left sided mainly, and lose him and we have skrts who isnt as good on left side, or any of them, and we lose the balance of 2 cb that are comfortable on both sides.
Would be sad to see Agger go but do feel last couple of seasons he has made a lot of mistakes maybe all his injuries caught up with him. So if he goes who will be vice captain?
No idea. It'll be a very important role this year as Gerrard will be missing for half the games, even if he stays injury free! Henderson has shown leadership qualities but there's no guarantee that he'll start!! We do seem to lack leaders, which is a worry. Arsenal have suffered with this for an age!
Agger is well liked but his inability to play an entire season means we will never have a settled back line built around him. Skrtel was more consistent last season, Lovren also played almost every minute, and Sakho is left footed so Agger is basically 4th choice. I would be happy to keep him but the club will decide whether his wages justify 4th choice.
ermmmmmm.... depends whats decent. rafa had plenty at one time but were they decent? baros, morientes, bellamy, courch kuyt over a period in 2006 Houllier had fowler owen and hesky though it could certinly be argued folwer was already past it prior to his move to leeds It really is that bad isn't it.
I really hope this is BS! At that price ?...... Spanish newspaper Sport are reporting that Manchester United are nearing a €20m (£17m) agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign 25-year-old German centre-back Mats Hummels.
Hijack please The only reason I can imagine this is Man Utd's willingness to pay £250,000 per week for 6 years
