Tottenham in the Summer Transfer Window - 2014 Edition!

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Moorpheus19, Apr 18, 2014.

  1. Let's see if we get him, first, before making decisions regarding the assessment that's been made regarding his abilities. If we get him cheap enough, I think it's worth us taking the punt.

Opinions of him seem to vary, from what I read. But, you know Levy...a "bargain" is what he's after. Let's hope he's got this one right...!

What aspects of Davies game impressed you? As so far all I've read is he's a great buy as he's cheap, young and could be very good.

Back from Hull, as his loan finished, then sold to them shortly afterwards.

Ben Davies is good at going forward, but needs to work on his defensive duties, he has been caught out of position a few times last season, and Ash had to cover for him, but he is very young and still learning his trade, and your gaffer sees probably the same in him as Laudrup did when he brought him up from our academy and threw him in the deep end when Taylor got injured with his broken ankle, I think he will do fine under your new manager!...........<ok>

    You do like Welsh LB's..................<laugh>

    <cheers>

Good going forward but suspect defensively. A typically spurs full back!

News I have is that we are close to signing Bony and Schneiderlin prefers us over Arsenal.

Davies has always impressed me when I've watched Swansea play, certainly not a bad signing in my book. Will be interesting to see which of Rose/BAE we offload now. My understanding was that Benny fallout was with AVB, not the club? Personally I rate him much higher than Rose, though his antics at the world cup were questionable.

Not sure why we're interested in Vorm - he'd be a first choice keeper at most clubs, but not ours. I can't stand signing good players and then watching them rot on the bench. Friedel is still a perfectly adequate number 2, we should be signing a young highly rated keeper who we can loan out for a couple of years as Chelsea did with Courtois.

    He's scored against Arsenal <ok>

I just think he's a good player, he gets forward well, defends okay and that's what you want of a fullback. I'm not going to gush over one attribute because frankly there's none especially noteworthy. We're not signing someone that's really strong but has a bad touch, or a brilliant crosser who's slow, or takes incredible freekicks but doesn't know how to defend. We're signing a well rounded full back, who lacks a bit of consistency but is clearly a good footballer. He's not the second coming of Bale but he's not the second coming of Young Pyo Lee either, thank ****.

We needed a new fullback and we're reportedly close to signing a good, young fullback who didn't cost us £30mill. I don't see what's to be pessimistic about.

I think it'd be more logical to sell Rose and keep Benny. Like you I prefer Benny but putting a neutral cap on, we can recoup a good percentage of the Davies costs by selling Rose. Ability wise I've always thought Benny was better than Rose so him as a back up to Davies makes more sense to me anyway. He could hopefully pass on his knowledge and experience to Davies and help him progress (just not the head-butting own players aspects!).

As for Vorm it's a weird one isn't it? A fantastic keeper who really shouldn't be a bench warmer and I too don't like seeing a good player go to waste but then you'd have to question Vorm's motives for joining knowing damn well that he'll play second fiddle to Hugo. If he's content to warm the bench more often than not then I'd be happy to have him here.

He's not the second coming of Bale? Try and be more optimistic YV <ok>

Going by your description I'm even less excited by his arrival but as it's better to under promise and over deliver then you should be in charge of the PR department for new signings!

Sky are saying that the Davies medical has been completed, so I guess an announcement is inevitable now. Possibly today..?
