So. The NHS are given a ****load of cash to treat drinkers & smokers whom medically cannot be treated. So occupational therapists take over treatment costs and the savings are then siphoned elsewhere to offset tax break incentives in other areas of advanced treatments. Where more money is to be made in investing into r esearch which profits are profligated to the Govt , who then set Budgets again.
In the REAL BRUTAL COLD reality of Business. Tobacco manafacturers cannot change or adapt . Governments cannot regulate them. As their there to make a profit. And the money they get sued for. Ridiculous amounts. Is Legislated. They chug along churning out product in a mechanical way . They have no compassion for human life. Because Humans wan't their product & profits. There not Interested in Educational practices. Bcoz the Govt tell them they cannot b regulated in society outside of the business their in namely killing ppl by Govt orders.
You are right, DMD. What the government would like is for everybody to be virtually teetotal but still contribute the same in taxes on the stuff. One puzzling thing. Just after the war something like 80% of adults smoked. Now it is less than 30%. Yet asthma and other respiratory diseases have increased. Which suggests there are other things doing more harm. Funny how in America, land of the lawyer and litigation, that no one has managed to sue for the effect of passive smoking. Probably because no death certificate has given it as a cause. Yet we still hear people hysterically claiming they will die if someone is smoking within 50 yards of them in the open air. (I don't smoke BTW). Same with booze. Everything wrong is down to introducing 24 hour drinking (whatever that is supposed to mean as you could always drink for 24 hours, but not buy it for as long as now, but we still have the shortest opening hours in Europe ) . However since the licensing laws were relaxed alcohol sales have come down. We are not even in the top 10 in Europe for consumption of alcohol. Yet we get daily harangues in the papers. There are a lot of people in cushy jobs making a nice living out of reducing recommended limits so that having a couple of wine gums makes you a binge drinker and they can continue until they get their index linked pension.
What do you mean Balkan? The cigarette maker pays no tax for their Company to the Government. The raw materials they need are given in a supply chain of next to no value. They have no costs in manafacturing or Overheads. Demand is Limitless. Because of Consumer Consumption . The economic advantages are the Govt takes taxation they require from compo claims and tax on goods & marketing & distribution . Economic relief in society is created by less traditional means of doing business. Namely Taxation on a Companies profits and overheads. Tobacco fields are protected by paid militia a private army of mercanaries and OR Security Firms to protect government interests. There is no Educational Reforms because it is a well oiled machine. If it aint broke - Don't fix it. Meanwhile supply & demand provides a way for World Governments to Keep population figures controlled by advertising the cigarette brands only In the mass media. Encouraging you to choose the freedom of smoking. Some choice , eh , & then addiction results - half your life is over. and ,Treatments that dont exist , keep your hands occupied as by now You have given up smoking , because You are dying, So occupational therapists now encourage you to hold a knife and fork instead. Because its not a cigarette anymore in your fingers that you need . It's balanced Food. You need now to combat the Illnesses & after a lifetime of appetite supprecancy of which is a side effect of smoking , you are left hungry & starving , & now you'll die from overeating bcoz smoking did'nt kill you in the 1st place.
