Transfer fees in general have taken one of their periodic hikes so fees like we are seeing now are probably going to be the new norm. That, coupled with the fact that everyone knows we need to improve our squad, and that we have a wodge to do it with, means that other clubs are going to try and get as much out of us as they can. So, what do we do? If we lose the signing by refusing to pay and show that we won't be ripped off, people complain. If we try to negotiate the fee, the process gets dragged out and we risk losing the player to someone who will pay. People complain. If we decide we need the player and pay an (apparently) inflated fee, people complain. Has anyone actually got a workable solution to offer to these problems, or do we just complain?
Even if Lovren is not worth £20m, getting the right player in that position is worth £20m and more. If Rodgers believes Lovrens the man then the deal is right.

I understand about inflated fees but I simply don't think lovren is good enough for our starting 11 and 20million is a lot for a backup CB!
No doubt he will be first team sooner rather than later. Iv'e been impressed with what I've seen of Lovren,we need a dominant figure at CB
Two seasons ago we were hoping to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey. And when that didn't happen most of us were more than a little peeved. Last season we lost out on Henri Ryan amongst others because we couldn't offer CL. We ended up with Aspas, Alberto, toure etc.We were very peeved. Now we are attracting quality players, absolutely regardless of cost because it's not our money. And some are still peeved. I really don't care if we spend £20 million on Lovren if he is the player we need. Other than hummels who else is there ? I would be more than happy if we were to blow most of the Suarez money on a player like Reus. Just one top quality signing will make this squad a force to be reckoned with ( and a LB) if it isn't already. Look who we have signed ( or are surely signing) Lallana. Lambert Markovic Can Remy Lovren Reus (please) Moreno ( if he's as good as some say) Look who's going or gone Moses Toure Cissokho Aspas Borini Coates (?) Lucas (?) How can we be critical of those signings....just look passed the price. As someone has already said if Luiz is worth £50million then all our signings are cheap by comparison.
I would have liked Shaqiri but looks like he's decided to stay. No point being peeved nothing we can do about that.
The only solution to the problem or rather reducing the problem is building best academy system in Europe linked to the best scouting team we can assemble. I'm assuming we are trying just that under these owners.
Well if you're prepared for the entire Middle East to turn it's wrath on you and your bacon butty, then maybe so. T'would be a most noble sacrifice on your part.
But that would mean we didn't buy any established, big-name marquee players. And people would complain.
