Morning Everyone, Young Robbie McDaid started his Leeds career off with a bag by completing a hat trick for the u18's against a York City team who looked short of ideas. Utd romped home 8-0. We have signed Switzerland defender Gaetano Berardi from Italian side Sampdoria for an undisclosed fee. The right back has penned a two year deal. Unfortunately Swedish international Robin Quaison has joined Italian Serie A side Palermo. The 20 yo midfielder waas being chased by a host of clubs including QPR. After leaving it late against Guiseley, do you read anything into the result, or do pre seasons matches mean nothing?
Good morning Matt and co .Yes I am still alive having survived the birthday bash last night I only drank 10 cans of John Smiths as I promised Moe I would take it easy I think the real signings will come in the next couple of weeks we desperately need some pace and whatever MC sAYs about Hunt and Morison they are not going top lead the team out at Millwall it will be Matt and AN other One cant read too much into preseason games I remember when Newcastle got relegated they lost 6-0 at Leyton in a preseason game and everybody was saying they won't do well this season they won the league with over 100 points! The young Irish lad seems to be a great find but I would love to see inaction before I can judge him another young Rhodesian scored an hat trick as well Yes its sunny here on the cote de Bardsey
Thanks Matt for taking the time to satisfy my appetite for a chat I am preparing now for the second birthday bash today
Morning Mike, wes it your birthday? 10 cans Some great points. I remember the day Newcastle got relegated from the Prem. Was really surprised
Morning all - Pre Season is about trying out formations and it is a time for the squad to get to know how each other play and gaining understanding (especially with so many faces). BUT in my opinion results are also fairly important, but in context. I believe yesterdays team of 2/3 and 1/3 contained a mix of players we can expect to start (as things stand). I would be more worried if we had put in a poor performance against them if we had started out with a full starting 11. I hope Leeds60 is right and the better signings are set to soon arrive, Berardi never completed his move in time for yesterday so he is one you would expect to start leaving Byram as back up or on the bench? I would hope that a new right sided midfielder of quality and with some pace was set to sign, this would leave us able to have Byram on the bench as a replacement for two different positions. Cellino said he wants 5-6 more new faces, you would have to hope at least three of those were starting 11 and not just squad players, Striker and two wide players are a must, Bianchi, Austin, Murphy, Tonge and Norris are surely enough for the two central spots? Doukara is described as a striker who can play on the wing, I don't see him as a starting 11 player. Cellino was present yesterday so I am glad we didn't play too well, maybe he was undecided about how much quality we still need, witnessing what sounded like a poor performance might make him up his urgency to bring in some better players
Morning all With a 60 minutes 11 containing Norris, Tonge, Cook and Killock I wouldn't worry too much that result took some time to get there. I would have been worried had we lost, but its all about fitness and squad gelling at this point
I think beradi looks a decent signing on paper, but on the whole we've got the lesser of the signings we've been linked with. Maybe we were never really in for he others, or maybe there's just more competition for, and higher wage demands (bellusci) from, the better looking prospects. It's the age old problem. We're a championship club, it's not easy to attract the better players even with a big chequebook unless you take guys who are on the slide and after a last payday. We've tried that latter without success... Generally because the ones we got weren't all that in the first place! It's tricky, I hope we get some more signings who look like guaranteed starters rather than squad additions, i 'm not expecting any marquee ones though, I hope to be pleasantly surprised!
Morning all from sunny spain. I remember over here some time back atletico madrid lost all their pre season games, then they went on to win the double!! Anyone what formation we have been playing? Off to a BBQ at a mates in marbella, laters all.
That beats my evening in huddesfield. Daughter graduating tomorrow. Thinking about going to see the bullshit get relegated this afternoon. #eggchasing
It depends on the quality of opponent, again I am not worried about yesterdays game when you look at the starting 11 but you don't expect to get outplayed or matched by a team 4 tiers lower than yourself. Lose 6 pre season games to teams that are of Premier League quality and it is one thing...
Morning gents from a roasting Torrevieja. About to head down for first pool session with family. Keep me updated on our progress or otherwise lads. wifi in apartment but not sure if thats a good or bad thing
Right time for the the German Grand Prix, Hamilton starting 20th or possibly pit lane, worth a bet on him winning, the Mercedes are a tad unreliable, Nico could suffer a problem and then I wouldn't rule Lewis out.
gday shaks. swim done now off to the pub to cheer on the dubs for my only time this year. Hatred of the Meath deckers
Afternoon all. When our likely starting XI came on after 60 mins, the difference in class told. Can't get too excited at the moment, as its all about fitness, formations and hard work. We'll have a better idea of how we're likely to do in a week or so. Given his hat trick, I'd like to see McDaid start with Smith up front on Tuesday. Would be interesting to see how they get on. Like most of the starting XI on Tuesday, they'll only get an hour. So it will be interesting to see how they get on.
I suspect that the team that runs out against Millwall will look nothing like either team yesterday. Remember chaps, it's pre-season & we're trying out various partnerships etc. It would be criminal if we didn't.
