Seemed like a really cool guy. Great actor and been in some big films too. With me though it's Rockford Files, the theme music and that car. RIP
One of my favourite " cowboys" on telly - starred as Bart in '57-'62 series "Maverick" - one of three gambling brothers. Roughly same time as Clint Eastwood appeared as Rowdy Yates in "Rawhide". RIP
RIP. Always came across as a genuinely good bloke. Loved his sports was always at NFL and Basketball games. Seem to remember the Rockford Files was on on a Monday or Tuesday night, compulsory viewing. Just for you BFT.
still watching the old black n white Mavericks i bought off fleabuy some time ago .... very likeable actor, one of my favorites R.i.p James Garner
Holy cow, I just watched a relatively obscure movie of his for the first time a couple days ago: 36 Hours. RIP, James.
He had actually given acting the @rse to take up producing and together with a partner was auditioning actors for the Rockford Files. One particular actor was that bad that James turned to his partner and said "Gawd almighty, I could do better than that" to which his partner replied "Hey, that's not a bad idea". The rest is history.
Must include "Gunsmoke" too starring James Arness as Matt Dillon in that cowboy period. RIP James Garner.
One of those actors who you invited into your home and left you with the feeling of an hour well spent. A natural actor and a great benchmark for how entertainers can do post-9PM using pre-9pm standards; how times change, no need for soft porn and no mumbling through a ***ash croak - telly at its best. RIP
A true Maverick of the small screen and will forever be Jim Rockford in many eyes who made The Great Escape. R.I.P. James Garner, or should i say... Jim Rockford. ?
He fought in the same unit that my Grandfather fought with in Korea they were wounded at about the same time to. I dont know if he knew him but he might have. He didnt talk about the war and it was only in the late 90's that my mom found his old uniform in a box that anyone realized he had been in the military. He only ever told a couple stories and only to my dad before he died and they werent very pleasant. So I doubt he would have mentioned Garner. At the ceremony for his purple heart (he got it and his other medals about 50 years late, there was a fire in some building during the war) the General said that his unit had 85% casualties in the battle that my Grandfather was wounded in (he was shot in the stomach). Its possible that they knew each other.
