I don't think they know themselves to be honest with you, it isn't a put down on Scots or Irish, just the way it is. Not something I want to go into but I remember watching a documentary about the IRA. An English soldier was patrolling the streets and a kid of about 6-7 years old ran up to him trying to kick and spit at the soldier. When the interviewer asked the kid why he was doing that he just replied we hate the English. That kid would not have had a history lesson to make his own mind up, it would have been drummed into him by his parents and he would grow up believing it was natural to hate the English. I read your point and wished I agreed with you but I feel bottom 5 as things stand. I didn't reply as I was trying (and failing) to be more positive about the team as I didn't want to upset a few of the delicate daises with their rose tinted glasses on Yes Brian was clueless but his signings apart from maybe Murphy and Smith were awful. Our probably starting 11 as things stand 20 goals from Smith would be outstanding, whoever partners him let's say 15 goals, rest of midfield would be lucky to hit 10 between them. That isn't enough to claw out of the bottom 5 IMHO Hunt played 20 games for us last season and never scored a goal, his last 6 seasons he has netted 13, 2, 10, 8, 6, 0 now aged 31 Morison in the same 6 seasons 23, 17, 10, 2, 3, 5 in his Bishop Stortford and Stevenage days he did look prolific but at 30 years old he isn't the answer either. We really can't go into a new season relying on either of those two
I think a fit midfield of our remnants of last season if given some decent formations, tactics and fitness are nowhere near as bad as you are painting. Austin if not expected to run 20 miles a game is decent, tonge is good enough at this level. If Sam plays right mid field I can see him chipping in as will mowatt. If White is given decent instructions even he is adequate.
We shall see Another problem could be yes sir no sir three bags full sir Hockaday having to buckle to pressure from Cellino and "who should play where and be selected" the first couple of results that go against us. That is if Hockaday isn't as clueless as Brian, remember you are hoping Hockaday is a good coach who can make good decisions, the man who was willing to trial and bring Ranger and Blackman into a team dressing room I am just hoping Cellino brings some decent quality players in who virtually pick themselves, last season we probably had 1 or 2 players whose name went down on to the team sheet without thinking about it, the rest you could throw their names into a hat and pick them out.
Also the man who brought through Walcott and Luke the scummer among others. It's not black it's not white it's somewhere in between IMO.
He might have discovered them, however he is not working with our youth set up, he is working with the first team. Discovering and nurturing raw talent is one thing, making a decision based on what you know is another... Hockaday knew Blackman and Ranger have serious discipline problems but he was still willing to give them a trial, that is a seriously bad call. Blackman went after two weeks, Ranger after three days, do you believe Hockaday had seen enough after three days or did Cellino ask him WTF he was doing after reading press reports about what a bad boy he was and telling him get shot? I don't believe Ranger being shown the door after three days possibly only two was Hockadays call
Vinnie also had such issues. Granted not as bad as ranger. But I arnt convinced ranger wasn't just paper talk and him bigging himself up as plastic gangsters do.
