Well tea contains caffeine, which is a stimulant and bad for you in excess. Stimulants can affect performance. So should we stop players drinking tea or at the very at least 'as we pay their wages' we should at least get a say in what tea they should drink as I would imagine the caffeine content in PG Tips and Asda Smart price would vary. Also as I'm paying the club I would prefer my money to go on strengthening the squad and not high performance tea over the smart price version

No. I'm just saying that each to their own and using this extreme example to make a point. This is solely between Arsenal, who do pay his wages, and Jack Wilshire, as fans we have absolutely no say on how a player lives his life, it doesn't matter if we are paying to watch the games or not.
The professional ethics have changed since Socrates times. As for Jack, this is not about his health, a couple of cigarettes will not damage it. BUT ! And this is a big BUT. We are talking about the professional attitude, discipline and commitment. These are top athletes and they are expected to behave in a certain way. If they do not do it, it is a signal for a clever manager. And Arsene is clever. He may well think - if this boy allows a ciragette and a cigar having promised that it would not happen again - what else can I expect from him? Is he really 100% committed? Is he actually a clever enough guy? Can I trust him? The boy has proven that he is not able to keep his promise. Is he a captain material? Now i will think twice. Probably Ramsey is more mature as a person... That could be harsh in normal circumstances, but we are talking about the high pressure zone with six zeros salaries etc. The competition is fierce and these guys need to watch their backs. If i were Wenger i would be seriously disapointed and when I need a new captain for one game Wilshere would not be on the list - because of this cigarette.
That argument pretty much extends to anything regarding Arsenal football club. We just pay the ticket fees, we don't have any say in anything to do with the club. Rubbish. We have the right to make our opinion known on the topic. What they choose to do with that opinion is up to them.
Worth pointing out wilshere has returned to training 3 days early and did the same thing last season (according to the telegraph), so he obviously takes his fitness seriously. I don't see the problem in the odd smoke here and there as long as he maintains his overall match fitness.
I can see both points. It's not good from a professional point of view, what he does in his private life still reflects on him as a player and on us as a club. But ultimately it is a young man on holiday with his mates, having a sneaky *** and it's not really going to impact on his ability or fitness levels.
Agree with most of that. My comment wasn't to defend Jack, just pointing out that in my opinion him smoking occasionally wouldn't affect his performances. I think the biggest issue these days is the media, Jack was in a swimming pool in a 5 star Vegas hotel, not that many years ago no-one would have even known he was there but modern day social networks mean that the world knows when celebrities have wiped their arse even before they've flushed the pan !
You say that, but just ask yourself this ... would you catch any world class players doing what he did?
Zidane and Cole were both pictured smoking at the points their careers were done. Cole smoking last year coincided with him not getting playing time for England or Chelsea. Zidane smoking in 2006, when he retired ... Other players pictured smoking never properly live up to their potential somehow. Rooney, never quite the great player. Balotelli ... talented but never quite there. Jack's just 25. Too early to be letting himself go. Would you ever catch any of the truly professional and world class players smoking? Your Messis, Ronaldos? No.

The photograph seemed to show someone holding the cigarette for him. It just looked like he was taking a drag of someone else's. I'm not sure that I'm going to condemn him for that. Really, a very silly story at this point.
Cigar smoking is a completely different kettle of fish. Most people who smoke cigars don't inhale, and you don't smoke nearly as many of them as cigarettes. I don't know what the club line on them will be, but you would have to really smoke cigars to excess for them to become a fitness issue.
Wenger has said that he will speak to Wishere about this incident, but isn't expected to sanction him and is not 'deeply concerned' about it. Sounds about right to me
