He could turn out to be another HH I suppose. If he signs, I'll wait until I watch him to make my mind up.
I did read in some story about him saying his injuries have been more bad luck than due to being injury prone. Let's hope so.
The only way we'll get the finished article is at outrageous cost, this is the market we are playing in. OK, Remy off, Austin lone striker, this bloke as his back up, Zamora in emergencies.
In which case we need to buy a right wing back sharpish. Or expect to see 5 at the back in a 5-4-1. The trauma of our capitulation last time round will live long with Redknapp, not conceding will be his main objective. I get the feeling that we may experiment with it for a couple of games, but if it doesn't work instantly back to a flat back four sharpish. Who on our coaching staff will be drilling the defence in a new and unfamiliar system? WALLY DOWNES?
With Remy going, it means wed need 3 or 4 new forwards. I agree normally with 2 up front but irony alert, Redknapp is a very negative manager, he could seriously play 541 with an AM dropping right back when we lose the ball with a 3CB 2DCM 4AM/WB 1ST when we have it. Trouble is it leaves us wide open down the wings on the counter.
2 up front means 4 in the match day squad. We have 2 on the books if remy goes. We need 2 more just to fill out the starters and sub's plus 1 or 2 as backup.
We had 4 go out in Johnson, Maiga, Keane and Doyle that havent been replaced. We have no poachers and are one injury away from having Zamora start. I believe we need 4 but think we will be short in that area yet again, after all we started last season with just 3 crocks. This season we can't bring in emergency loans though.
If you look at the current squad on the official site there are only three strikers: Zamora, Austin and Remy. It is becoming increasingly likely that Remy will go to Liverpool the last I heard, so in fairness to Flyer I'd say we need a minimum of four forwards to call upon, so my maths says we need to buy at least two. Any fewer and you're relying on the attacking midfielders, and there's been little by way of goals from Shaun Wrong-Footed, Junior Hoilett and Matty Phillips so far, although injuries have not helped.
I think with Remy leaving 2 more is absolutely right - I can't image a situation where we would we be signing 3 or 4 backup strikers whatever we might aspire to in an 'ideal' situation. I think we need to remember who we are - the likes of ManU and City might have the luxury of 5 or 6 decent strikers, but we are a small club with financial limitations and we have other squad needs which should be attended to. I'm reasonably confident that with the new found 'band of brothers' mentality in the squad, the likes of Hoilett and Phillips will be chipping in with a few. In addition to that, it looks difficult enough for us to sign even one striker, Christ knows how the board would cope with dealing with three negotiations at the same time!
Agree, we need to buy 2 more strikers. So in fairness to Flyer, he said we need to buy 3 or 4 - which is clearly delusional !!
