Cheeky ****.

Foxtrot is going to have headgear on soon... as Fanning thought he wasn't putting it all in. Nothing to do with jockeys on Olly's horses, its due to them being backwards of where they should be.

Absolutely ludicrous for Rory McIlroy to be odds on 8-13 with a full 36 holes and very unsettled weather to come. Way too many good players on the leaderboard and Rory is going to really struggle now. Schwartzel only 2 behind now and looking very good.

Tiggy Wiggy is a very smart and precocious little speedball, but her accumulated penalties will make things very hard for her in the glorified seller at Newbury. At 4/1 I'm not going to play, but I hope she wins. I expect to see Hughesie in the winners enclosure half an hour later when Lwah wins the 4.25 7f Conditions stakes for 2yolds.

In Ireland, I hope Luca and Kevin Manning can pump up the Volume.

Im going down the group horse in a handicap for my selections today.

Ill follow SBC on Athenian that he has mentioned this week and also Jordan Princess & Tiggy Wiggy.

Of the others i fancy Parish Hall in the opener at the Curragh and Volume in the Irish Oaks.

Noble protector finishes lengths clear of the field - might as well give up now. Criteria travelled like a winner throughout the race and then Noble protector finds turbo speed. Did the weight cloth fall off or something?

Al Kazeem seems to have lost interest; a shadow of the horse that I saw beat Camelot. Shame.

It may be too early to say that Ron as I think he was far from race ready today, I think they just wanted to let him know he is a racehorse again. I thought Vancouverite should have won, then I looked at the rider.

This was classic Jamie - he was in a pocket and travelling well, pulls out as he should to ensure a run. Then it happens the reason he loses...... with everything pushing for all they are worth he decides to cover the horse behind Al Kazeem for another 5-10 strides totally unnecessarily rather than pull him out immediately and start pushing. He loses by a head and should have won by half a length.

Watch the race back and it's clear why he gets stick, his error was totally unnecessary.

You may be right Blue. Trainer was philosophical about it. Everyone seemed to think he looked very fit. Jockey thought he got tired. The next race will tell.

As for "Frank" Spencer, I just don't know what to make of him.

Mark Johnston’s horses only seem to continue their winning streaks when I have nothing on them; hence four year old Kosika bolting up in the 2-05, where four year olds have an excellent record. I note that my loser last week – Johnston’s Maid In Rio – came out and won yesterday!

There were three IF races at Newbury:

In the 2-40, IF Al Kazeem retained the ability that saw him win the Eclipse, then he looked a bit of a penalty kick (his fitness being taken for granted). Punters clearly thought so as they shortened his odds. There were question marks about Vancouverite, well beaten in the Dubai World Cup and Ballydoyle reject Battle Of Marengo; whilst Triple Threat had disappointed last time but Andre Fabre does not send them here just for fun. As it ended up, Mick Shannon’s Amralah, a Listed Race performer, put them all in their place. Where next with Al Kazeem? York?

In the 3-15, IF Music Master’s fourth at Royal Ascot can be taken at face value, then he does have the best recent form on offer; however, I suspect that he was flattered that day and the race is much more open than the betting suggests. I note Henry Candy’s charge is being opposed on the Exchanges.

In the 3-50, IF Tiggy Wiggy’s second at Royal Ascot can be taken at face value then all that punters have to ignore is the high draw and the high weight. Myself, I would rather follow last season’s winning trainer Richard Fahey with bottom weight Realtra from a good draw and in receipt of more than a stone from the favourite.

Barneys, group horse up next at Newmarket in Athenian - Looks to have a decent chance if fit to go first time up.

My fancy was Sound of Guns but has drifted to 14's.
