At the end of May, I mentioned to QPR999 an incident where a neighbour lit a fire in their narrow garden at the end of the last hot spell when everything was tinder dry. Pouring petrol to accelerate the fire, and burnt down most of their neighbour's fence before the Fire Service arrived to quell the 15 foot flames! Low and behold, the neighbour on the other side was doing just the same at 8.00pm last night on one of the hottest nights; resulting in my kids running down from bed to complain about the smoke and fumes; so I'm guessing that everyone else in our street ended up closing their windows too! Crazy! Is it just me who finds this irresponsible?
There should be local council guidance for bonfires. Where I live it says that residents have to take neighbours into account when lighting a bonfire, and that they shouldn't be lit on days and times when people will be in their gardens.

I really feel for you, Sku. The warm weather seems to bring out the worst in some people: BBQs under your windows, endless dog barking, babies screaming, late night sweary parties that your kids can hear from their beds, as well as those thoughtless tossers that think all their neighbours want to hear the **** music they like to listen to. Last year we had neighbours across the street have a party that went on until around 2am, upon which there was about 30 minutes of loud "goodbyes", laughter and general silliness. No thought for those already in bed. The following morning I waited until around 9:15am to mow my front lawn - as post-9am generally seems to be an acceptably social time to start such things - only to have Mr Thoughtless lean out his window asking if I could perhaps keep the noise down because they'd had a late night!
