http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/166658-rickie-lambert-to-wear-no-9-at-lfc New Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert has been handed the historic No.9 shirt at Anfield. The England international sealed a switch to his boyhood side at the beginning of June and kicked off pre-season preparations earlier this week. Today it was CONFIRMED that the 32-year-old will follow in the footsteps of illustrious names such as Robbie Fowler, Steve Heighway, Ian Rush and Ian St John in wearing the number.
be as odd as when we had Carroll wearing the number 9 shirt but mainly used as a sub. no 9 shirt should be a first team, and hopefully quality player, not a bench warmer. maybe i am too old shool lol
Agree with this,Lambert will spend alot of his time on the bench this season. I think he will turn out to be an important signing though,he will contribute plenty
The number 9 shirt means much more to Lambert than any other signing we'll make this year. I'd rather Lambert, someone who understands what it means to wear the shirt, have it than someone like Remy who prob wouldn't be overly fussed.
For me it says it all.... Here Rickie live your dream.... Never mind about winning ****e or whatever we won the cl qualification trophy so let's all rest on our laurels and give you and Remy an easy ride
It's a number. Lambert took the 9 off Aspas which he is entitled to do, and Remy hasn't been given anything yet, not even a contract, and might stick with 18
They wont get an easy ride. They will have the hardest rides of their careers so far. They will do there bit and have a positive impact. You cannot have a squad entirely made up of stars. Players who are not stars are unworthy players. Since Suarez left ever body has suddenly gone in to this 'every signing has to be a star' mindset. When Suarez left people opinions suddenly changed. I believe these are both players we would still have signed any way had Suarez stayed, and in that scenario every body was happy because we had gained very decent addition to the squad, and depth we lacked last season, plus some extra goals, with out a big financial output. Rodgers has said he wants a player of the highest level to come in with the Suarez money. I believe the club are working on that. But it does not mean these smaller signings will have to stop and cannot be completed in the mean time. If we had stopped signings players like these when Suarez left we'd be looking forward to a mid season crumble when we pick up a few injuries at the same time. You all believe Sturridge will have a stretch out injured this season.
Not everyone needs to be a star but it would be nice if they improve the first team! I don't see the benefit of just buying substitutes. We have a huge chunk of money. We need to spend it wisely and not just spend inflated money on the same calibre player we would be buying anyway.
Im guessing those moaning about RL wearing no.9 are considering Studge as the main guy. If so, why aren't you equally outraged at Danny choosing to wear 15...???
But if you don't buy quality players, and make no mistake lambert is a quality player, you end up with a subs bench like the last two seasons. Where or who are you going to turn to if you need a goal or two in the last 15. Lambert or a prima Donna tevez type who's sulking because he's not in the first team. Or an Aspas .....? Building a squad is all about balance and you have to have players who are happy to wait there chance, who will do the dirty work, who may not be a messi or Suarez but you know what they will give you off the bench. Would anyone on here consider Hernandez for example, a crap player because he comes off the bench a lot? Let's wait til the end of the window and see what we have. However, if Liverpool wanted to take the Suarez money over to Dortmund and say here's £75 million for reus and hummels then I would be very happy with our squad.
