Radio 5 Live back to Golf NO!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!! Live Golf on 5 BBC channels and no Live F1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It certainly seems as though the F1 gods are doing all they can to deny Lewis another championship title. Should be Nico on his own now with Lewis hopefully giving us an entertaining drive.
So now that Hamilton's brakes failed on his second run in Q1 and he will most certainly start 16th will mercedes still go for the mirror strategy? Or will they start him on the harder tyre first for a long run then put him on supersofts? I believe Rosberg and the others at front will go supersofts-supersofts-soft. Hamilton's best bet would be to run long on softs make up places after the other do their first pit stop then go supersofts-supersofts.what do you think?
Bottas impressing again, and KMag looked good. Shame Hamilton had issues, passing Button and Kimi early on will be interesting challenge in the early laps of the race.
i doubt it's just that, most of the time he seems to gain on other drivers is under braking, so he probably just pushes them past their limits, some of his failures this year literally look like he's just heavily dumped the bias to the front or rear, thinking it will gain him time and he can manage it, and it's just overloaded something.
Anyone watch GP2? Stunning race, well worth watching if you can catch it. What's interesting in all of this is that at Mclaren, Hamilton had Carbon Industries brakes, whilst the Mercedes of 2012-13 were designed around Brembo brakes, which both Schumacher and Rosberg used originally. Since then Hamilton has switched to Brembos, but Rosberg has apparently gone the other way and now uses Carbon Industries brakes. From 2013: "Hamilton prefers the combination of stopping power and pedal feel of the Carbone Industrie discs over those of the more common Brembos. The Brembos are said to give more feedback through the pedal, allowing easier modulation. But Lewis found at McLaren that with the right size and design of brake master cylinder, he could get the modulation he needs together with the higher braking power of the Carbone Industrie discs. He has been struggling to get that same combination at Mercedes.” Hamilton has always taken the "last of the late brakers" approach to braking, so I'm surprised that he's moved away from the greater stopping power of the Carbon Industries brakes, unless Mercedes have changed their brake system over the last two years. Perhaps there's other reasons for choosing Brembo brakes that suit him, and he's been compensating for the loss of outright stopping power with a set-up that pushes the Brembo material right to it's limit. Instances like today, and maybe Montreal, suggest that perhaps he's pushing them too far? Curious why Rosberg has changed to Carbon Industries, there must be some logic behind that.
Yeah he really needs to work on his 'bringing out yellow flags at the right time' management. He just can't get the timing right
The brake issues on both cars in Canada was brought about by the failure of the ERS on both vehicles. Whether Hamilton failed to see the chequered flag in Canada because of his bias setup, driving style or brake choice or even a combination of those things is a matter of debate. Losing brakes during qualifying would suggest a component failure rather than driver error given they're not under the constant loads of a race and unlikely to overheat or deteriorate to the point of failure.
Yeah, I only said maybe for Montreal as clearly lots of factors at play there, and it was completely different circumstances to today. Agree this is likely to just be a component failure, and I think it was Paddy Lowe said other teams had had similar issues with Brembos failing. Although drivers are pushing the brakes to the absolute limit in quali, so perhaps the peak loads being put into the brake material are higher than in the race, and it was that which caused the failure, rather than repeated, smaller loads.
It's certainly a concern that they could fail so quickly. It wouldn't give me a whole lot of confidence for the race. Hopefully it was a flawed disc rather something that could reappear during the race.
Hamilton likely to start from Pitlane due to Mercedes changing his brakes. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/115039?source=mostpopular
