He's been massive for them, to be fair. Not worth it normally, but when it's a player who is tried and tested in your system then it's worth paying a bit more if necessary.
I thought they were continuing their awful 18 months or so of transfers by signing Mathieu for €20m?
Mathieu is a 30 year old average LB, Barca happen to have arguably the best LB in the world in Alba, so paying €20m for him is stupid. Nothing surprises me with Barca and transfers anymore, the people in charge of that side of things are utter morons. Selling Sanchez and parting with an extra €50m to sign a player who has shown countless times that he can't control himself and is now probably one more mis demeanour away from a seriously lengthy ban is stupid. Selling your best attacking midfield prospect (Thiago) so you can keep the "golden boy" fabregas was stupid. Then selling Fabregas the very next summer made it even worse. If you look further back there are many more complete **** ups on their part. They must be one of the worst teams around when it comes to transfer policy
Saintmagic...that's rich for a Saints fan to criticise another clubs transfer strategy (but you are right that Barca appear to be a car crash)
In the grand scheme of things I think our transfers over the last few years put us firmly above average tbh
I think other transfers have shown the Pelle transfer to be a good price (if reports of around £8-10m to be believed). We've seen E.Valencia, Borini and Ideye go for similar or higher fees, none of which have been particularly prolific and some in weaker leagues than Pelle.
Well you're purposefully comparing him to ****e signings (bar Borini who I think will be worth it). Siem de Jong went for 6. Mame Diouf was free. Bafe Gomis was free. You also haven't taken age into account. Valencia has a lot of years in him, and so does Borini.
