Yes Pepe has agreed to stay, but that was before Kenny went on his ethnic cleansing rampage (if we believe the media, which we don't, since we're not stupid) But if Kenny is buying British, and if if some of our Spanish speaking players do go, I can see Pepe changing his mind next year, if not Christmas...

So if we fall for all the speculation, and if we agree that Pepe may start feeling isolated, who would you look to replace him with?

Personally I have no idea, Citeh wouldn't see Hart, and I can't think of another English keeper who is that good.

Pepe Reina has confirmed he's staying. So why the fuss? Kenny won't sell one of the best keepers in the world, and the best keeper in his agre group. It would cost Liverpool in the region of £20-£25 million to replace someone that cost £6 million.

Pepe's English is fine. Suarez speaks Spanish and there's a chance a Spanish speaker or two will still come in. I can't think of anybody likely to be sold who speaks Spanish, unless Maxi knows some.

Maybe, but that 20-25m would come from the sale of Pepe anyway. So it wouldn't dent our kitty. Noth that it's gonna even happen anyway.

While sarcasm is a bit part of my skillset I was serious. Argentinian is not Spanish.

Far be it from me to question your wisdom Genaral, but I feel that statement requires a little explanation.
Argentina's official language is Spanish. It may be a colloquial form that Spaniards consider quaint, but Spanish nonetheless. Apart from the Welsh descendents in Patagonia who speak Welsh.

I was given to understand it's not as easily understood as all that. Some would say Jockanese is really just English but try understanding Weegies at the best of times bydaywaybigmannaedanger'n'nat.

You could be right. As my Spanish is no more than O level standard I can't say. I'm sure all colonies drift away from their mother tongue with time. I just think Pepe has as much chance of understanding Maxi as he does Suarez.
It's probably like listening to Geordie- theoretically that's English as well.

Anyway, back on topic. Why should we be worried about Pepe leaving because of no Spanish speakers?. Most of our squad speak or are learning English (some of the foreigners are better than the natives). I'd have been more concerned about him leaving because of no European footie but that question seems to have been cleared up for now.

I got this on my facebook page.Apparently Pepe knows that Athletico Madrid are now on the look-out for a keeper following the sale of De Gea to Man Ure.However he insists they are wasting their time approaching him.Now thats encouraging that he's turning down his favourite club to commit to Liverpool. And it is his favourite club. His dad Manuel Reina played for Athletico Madrid. He once said he would play for them at some stage of his career,I can see it happening too,in 7-8 years.

He was at Barca before Villareal right? Who was the barca keeper that kept him out there?

    It was Valdes.
However a 19 year old Jose Reina kept Victor Valdes out of the Barca team initially. This was in 01,and he was later loaned to Villarreal, and then signed permanently for Villarreal.Pepe played against Liverpool in the 2001 UEFA Cup semi final.Gary McAllister stuck a penalty past him at Anfield in the second leg, following a Kluivert hand-ball.He is also a one time team-mate of Jari Litmanen, who Liverpool signed from Barcelona on a free in January 2001.

That's what I thought, but couldn't remember who his competition was at barca, saw some old game with a young casillas and young, full head of hair Reina...
