We understand Sheffield United have rejected a third bid, believed to be in the region of £2m, from Hull City for their England Under 21 centre-half Harry Maguire. Both Wolves and Nottingham Forest have also been linked with the 21-year-old who has already played 130 games for United.
I've said it before and I will say it again but Sheffield United fans are the most delusional fan base I have ever come across. I feel really embarrassed for them because it seems like it is the majority over the minority. So many of them think: 1. They are a guaranteed promotion this year. 2. We are a guaranteed relegation. Then we will be in the same league and they will surpass us. 3. They understand that MaGuire would want to move to a bigger club. But why Hull? Hull is a **** hole. Hull are a **** team. 4. Hull aren't making forward steps and are a club treading water !?!?!?!!?!?!?!?! 5. Hull City are **** because Sheff Utd at a point in the semi final where beating Hull. 6. If Maguire goes to Hull then he is **** and a mercenary. 7. Sheff Utd is a more attractive proposal than Hull City. They don't seem to grasp where they are and where we are. In terms of league, manager, players, money, transfers, Europe, FA Cup, sponsorships, international players, infrastructure, potential. Never before have I wanted a club to not get promoted as much as I do about Sheff Utd.
Their fans really are stupid. They all think that we are guaranteed to be in the same division next season and that they are going to give us a loss for the ages.
Living in Sheffield I can tell you that you're 100% correct... They're a strange lot. At least the Wendies have some perspective/football knowledge
Move on. 1) We've got the money (with which we could probably get most players in League 1) and can find other, better, players in his position. 2) They've got a disgruntled, frustrated and thwarted young player who no longer wants to be there and who blames them for denying him the chance of European football. In 1 year we can get him for nothing, and he can extract his revenge by going to anyone but them. His other "suitors" may be able to match our cash offer, but can't offer European football. And, if we drop out, why would Wolves etc up their offer? Sod Sheff. U.
Which is odd when you think that in the not too distant past, our positions were reversed. Let them think what they want, it doesn't change the fact that we're flying high and they're off to Fleetwood and Crawley next season. They call themselves the Blades, but they're hardly the sharpest tools in the box are they? Maybe they should take a lesson from the Hammers.
So we're categorising ALL Sheff utd fans as deluded then cos of a few on the internet?? I worked with quite a few and they were just the same as the normal ones on here, even when it was going well they expected it to go tits up.
I don't say it is all Sheff United fans. But when you go on multiple forums and use them as a survey of a variety of different fans and the general consensus is the same, then it is slightly strange. These forum members seem to think we are arrogant and we seem to think they are delusional. We will have to go our separate ways haha.
Their fans seem to think it will take 3.5 to 4 mill up front to get him. They also think they will get 4 mill in a tribunal fee for him if he joins us on a free next season. There is no chance a tribunal would set the payout that high.
£4m?? Ha they're dreaming! If we ever lose a player to the same circumstances I wouldn't expect a tribunal to give us anything like that.
I agree but the prices are inflated. I wouldnt pay it but Brucey seems to want in young British players and you pay a premium.
Unfortunately not as being under 24 even if out of contract there would be a fee & it it went to tribunal we might still end up having to pay £2 million
I take your point, but as a tribunal figure will take into account only his training cost, not his "sale value" (I believe) I would have thought it would be beneath what we have already offered. He is, after all, a league one player looking to move up through the divisions. We are not looking at a young Messi here. I would have thought we could eventually reach a fair compromise with Sheff U, but time is a factor. If they want to play hard ball to try and force our offer up, they might find we go elsewhere and leave them with a player who they want to cash in on, but who is now alienated by them. I understand their desire to maximise their return, but my point is they may push it to far. We have other options, they may not find someone else who will offer them money and the player European football. We can't really lose, they (and the player) can. Not all Mexican Stand Offs end happily!
Apparently Leeds are after Bruce Jnr again. I would rather go for someone instead of Dawson anyway. If he's wanting a lengthy, expensive contract at 30, it's probably best to search elsewhere. Maguire and another CB is needed, possibly a 3rd if Bruce leaves (which I doubt anyway).
