The young striker is said to be a target for us.
It would be a fair deal if he is any good. With Baldy and JET in our attack there is time for a promising young striker to grow without being under real pressure, especially if City have a comfortable and successful season.
It would be a win-win for everyone.

    memo
does anyone else find it ironic that we took our squad off to Rustenburg to 'bond' at a place where the England players grew apart and fostered disillusionment during the WC in South Africa
Maybe us being a club side will produce different results though...

There is an element of irony. However the pictures seem to suggest that the team are getting something out of it

Agree with what you say - need a young pacy striker

I don't mind where they go for preseason training, as I assume SL is footing the bill.
However, according to Wikipedia, Rustenberg is one of the most polluted cities on the planet due yo it platinum mining and associated industries.
Makes one wonder if Weston-Super-Mud would be just as good?

A good preseason is vital, in my opinion. I would like to see the team being pushed to their peak fitness, and most importantly would want to see the club challenged by good teams with different philosophies of playing.

I sincerely hope you are wrong RP, and I can't see it tbh
Baldock has already stated that he is happy in Bristol, he plays for the biggest club in the area.
The club have stated that they do not need the money and they don't wish to sell.

Unless a Premiership club came in with a silly offer I can't see it happening (for silly offer read 4m+)

    Thats not the point though.
If he wanted that he would have moved to London or Manc
    He moved to Bristol.

Trying to read the intentions of today's footballers is somewhat akin to swimming in mud. Although we are used to that kind of problem in the Somerset Riviera the mindset of self centred players is a totally different kettle of fish.

Don't get me wrong but just think what you would say if you were in a position such as Baldock's when you are damned if you do and the same if you don't. Any player when approached by Bristol City is likely to say that they are only transferring to Ashton Gate because it was their only choice but will rather take the politically correct route and say they are looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity. When speculation is rife that they could be on their way to another club they are hardly going to take the low road and state that they can't wait to leave Bristol City.

There's a business going on here and if the right offer turns up for Sam he and Bristol City will probably take a long hard look and decide the right thing when the time arrives. Then he will shake hands and say that he has enjoyed his time at the club and say all the right things when he arrives at his new destination because that's just the way it is in football. Following the usual disappointment we will then move on and so will Sam - fact of life.

    Cant argue with that
except that there is a tendency on this board to look through a glass darkly.

Maybe the history of Bristol City FC has something to do with it

BBC web site saying that Leicester about to sign Ulloa for £6m.

Maybe another bid in the offing for Captain Sam?

I take it from this then that SC does not see Wes Burns or any other academy lads becoming permanent first team squad members this year (or perhaps ever) otherwise why would we take a punt on a youngster who never really got near the Wolves 1st team, even in L1?

So we can't sign any more youth players, even if we like the look then ?

BBC now saying Brighton going for O'Grady from Barnsley so perhaps no longer interested in Sam?

Wes Burns is in the first team squad. Whether he makes it as a winger or main striker is not yet clear. We have Lemonheigh-Evans and Bishop as Academy boys who could break into the squad this season but if a 20 year old with some international experience like MacAlinden becomes available we would be silly not to be interested. And remember that under 21 Academy players are not counted in the 60% Salary cap (I think that is the rule but stand to be corrected)

Brighton's first bid for Baldock was 300k.... Im guessing their next bid will still be way off the mark.
